2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission A/C Fan motor relay issues

boutt 4 months ago the blower motor went from high to barely blowing when selector was in high. Checked the relay under the hood and one of the spades had plastic that was slightly melted on both the relay and the distribution block. replaced the relay figure since it was in the pickup since 2002 it was old and so the new worked great unitl 2 days ago and now its done the same thing. Im leaning towars the blower motor goin bad since it too has been in there since 2002. Im gonna troubleshoot it this weekend probably and i was wondering if any1 has experienced this as well as where do i look for the resistor at. Im probably gonna replace all 3 components but i wud like to trouble shoot it to hopefully narrow it down.

High speed is direct, bypasses the resistor. The resistor is on the AC housing inside the truck under the glove box area. If you have an ammeter you should check the load on the motor on high. bg

I have the same issue with my 99 CTD and am going to pull the motor and try to lube it with SYN oil in the bushings if possible as I can hear my motor when it is cold and it is squealing and this has also caused the resistor to burn the fuseable link/fuse out again, so i will repair that also while it is out. I will post the results of my repair endeavor later.

Ifyou have a u-pull-it yard nearby I recommending replacing it rather than trying to oil a bearing. Fans from many years of 1500-3500s will work. Locally they charge about $10 for the fan and resistor.

GAmes is, right on, you wont be able to help the fan motor with oil. If you could get it apart and resurface the shaft area where the bearing runs and re-oil the wicks it might last a while but doubt it would be worth the effort. bg
