Hi all sorry for all the questions just trying to get up to speed.
The no fuel cap thing bugs me . Any locking caps?
Best way for warm up in morning? does exhaust brake come on for warm up ?
Anyone convert small radio to 8.5" ?

Locking gas caps are a waste of your time. They just knock a hole in the bottom of your tank. The bigger thing to secure is the expensive emissions equipment on the exhaust.

I do have the fuel filler cap cover on mine. The factory plug had water on it from the dealer car wash.

Your block heater and a timer is your best friend for warming up.
Cummins says anything more than 10 minutes at idle is considered excessive, this can be easily eclipsed if no block heater and trying to warm a cold engine up at cold ambient temperatures.

I use my bumper mounted block heater pretty much anytime ambient temperatures drop below 25*F. Start, clear windows off and drive easy. If I'm towing anything or the windows are frozen over I'll allow a few extra minutes but I generally keep idle times as short as possible, especially before operating temps are achieved.

I always avoid the EB for warm up. The programming at high idle restricts the VGT slightly as is, more is not always better.

My routine is very similar, but since I don’t DD the truck I don’t plug it in often.

Even at normal idle the VGT is closed more when cold with the EB off.

With the EGR and lower volume of coolant in the block my 6.7 heats up 3-4x as fast as my 5.9 ever did.

Agreed. I came from a 98 and can relate. With my 98 I had to plug in and run a winter front to ever hope for heat. I have a winter front for my 14 but have not really had a need for it.

FWIW mine is not a daily driver either. But most of my runs are predetermined, meaning if I need the truck I generally know about it in advance and plan accordingly.
I have 1 or 4 other vehicles to run as daily drivers :D:D

I read on some post that cooling down was more important then warming up. Not sure this applies to our friends in colder weather. Also, was advised to leave the EB on always to help clean out the turbo soot.

I don't have a block heater. I do have one from my 04.5 I never installed will that one work? I used to put my old Ford diesel on heater/timer since it was sooo hard on batteries. We have had multiple instances at out church stealing fuel as Tuesdak said. I'm in Commiefornia 14mi. from the beach so it doesn't get that cold like most you guys do. Thanks

As AH641 says, and I didnt think Cummins even built the engines without a block heater so I think your truck is just missing a cord. Mine was folded up under the rear seat when I got it as second owner at 23K miles. I sure do like the idle up feature and like said above, I use short idle times mostly less than 5 min also after having it plugged in over night.

IIRC....there is/was a 100 dollar or so option, the cold weather package.....truck came with the cord installed and a radiator cover......

When I auto start my truck from the house and its extremely cold out, high idle will kick in, in about 30 seconds, and EB turns on as well. I have heat in 5 minutes from that point no joke. I know the EB turns on because you can hear the turbo screaming, especially from the passenger side of the truck. Truck is bone stock.

I also know the EB is on, because I have an Edge CTS2 Monitor and when the truck is high idling, VGT van position is at 100% and as soon as I tap the brake High Idle turns off and Vane position changes.

Even with the EB switch on I’ve never seen the VGT at 100% at idle, or high idle. It’s usually in the high 90’s.

Yes the ECM will close the vanes more on a cold motor, but on mine it’s still not as much as if I hit the EB button. That’s all on a CTS2.

We haven't really had any real cold weather here in NY so I'm going off memory.. I'm almost positive EB was automatically on, and when I hit the EB button, I could hear the turbo go quiet again and Vane position change.
