This past Friday I took delivery of a 2021 F150 diesel. First impression this is so not the ford that my uncle owned. Quiet is the first takeaway. RAM has stepped up their game with fit and finish in recent years. Ford hasn’t been sleeping they kept pace. I went from a 2013 Ram SLT to a 2021 Ford XLT. So it’s not the top of the line trim package. Apple’s to Apple’s? All I can say is this new truck is a step up in quality.
My trip home from the dealership, F150 diesels are hard to find more on that in a bit, was about 225 miles. A nice trip to run in a new engine. This little 3 ltr engine did just fine, delivering just shy of 28 mpg. While I can’t compare that to the 7100 lb Ram it’s still impressive for a full size truck. The Ram would deliver around 19-20 mpg. If I behaved. Proof that Cummins had tweeked all they could out of their engine.
It sucks that ford has decided to drop the F150 diesel in fact there is talk of dropping the diesel from the F250 trucks in the next few years. The trend is to go electric. And they are pushing it hard. Electric that is. The 3ltr diesel in the F150 came from Ford’s Land Rover division where it’s been available for over a decade and has built a respectable track record. Roughly 200 Hp and 410 ft/lbs of torque is close to the numbers that Cummins had in the 89 Dodge trucks. While that Cummins engine wasn’t working all that hard and the proof is many have gone a million miles or more. This engine is No slouch.
That said I look forward to sharing more about this truck in the future. Until then…

Enjoy your new F-150 PowerStroke......but I’m not certain I would have went in search of a particular optioned truck that had already been 86’ed. Future support of this engine may turn out to be a SNAFU.....based on your ownership length of your previous 2500.

Congratulations. I have been very, very pleased with my 2018 F150. So much so, that we picked up a new 2021 Ranger in October. Ford really has come a long way in their offerings and I'm sure that you will be more very happy with yours.

Gotta agree with Greg, that engine did not survive very long and will be difficult to find a competent dealer tech that knows that engine. Shoot, I have to drive past 3 dealerships over 1.25 hrs just to find someone that is competent in an ISB to perform recalls....

I am not brand bashing in the least, I have had a Ford sitting in my driveway at least as long as my teenage boys have been alive going back to an 89 F250 cargo van with a 300 inline 6. Currently have a 98 Mustang that hasn't seen the light of day in close to a decade and a 2015 Explorer. They make a good truck. I wish you luck and hope you keep us updated in your ventures for better or worse.

I always thought the cutdown in the front of the front doors looked a little screwy. Well, it places the mirrors lower so you easily see over them. I missing my 2015 3500 a bit, however I am really liking the 2021 F150 XLT Sport. Even with the little 2.7L ecoboost it is a peppy rig to drive. 0-60 in 6.1 secs.

Ford did a nice job with the 12" horizonal sync 4 display.

Snoking that’s a really ugly color… Lol here is my new truck.I’m on the fence about the outside mirrors but I do like not having the blind spot I had with the towing mirrors on my old Ram.

Not that I’m no Ny anymore but they have outlawed window tint. Unless it factory it has to be removed or the vehicle will not pass inspection.

Here in Utah, that have a pass-through (darkness) rating max. The legal limit is not really that dark, but it's better than nothing. Many people go way darker than the legal limit and it never becomes an issue.

Tint sucks looking out the window hunting or just cruising back roads, but the trucks look so much better with it. The lack of tint just makes for a goober viewing window.

My tint is to Washington state limit, which is quite a bit lighter that the back door windows. Here is Arizona people go really dark and LEOs do not seem to mind. Some even tint there windshield, which is not legal.

Washington:

You may tint your vehicle to 24% VLT for the front doors of any SUV. The back half can be any darkness you prefer. As for passenger vehicles, you may tint up to 24% on all windows except the windshield. All windshield tinting can only be tinted to a max of 6″ from the top or the as1 mark.

You need to look at the new tints that block the UV without looking like the rear of a limo! Really cuts down on the heat build up along with the sun fade. Around here, lots of the vehicles have there windshields done the the UV blocking and you can't tell it's even on there. I'm all for allowing tint within reason. Front windows need to have enough light transmission to see who's driving and the windshield laws need to be looked at again. If you can cut the glare coming through the windshield, wouldn't that make it a bit safer on the roads?

UV blocking is standard on all car windows for decades now, started somewhere back in the eighties as an option and became normal in the nienties.

Yes, but the tinting blocks out a lot more of it then the stock tint in the factory windows! I've seen and felt the difference! The biggest take away is, at night, some LED street lights look a bit purple. No big deal! As always Ozy, appreciate your imput and experience with these trucks!
