Does anyone have a troubleshooting document covering an ABS intermittent alarm light now being always on/in alarm. I have an updated 2018 era Autel code reader that does not have RAM code data after 2017.

I'm thinking it may be the problem that I'm having on my 2018 2500. I get ABS & traction control. Took it to the dealership still under warranty and they have a new ABS pump ordered for it. This was in Dec. and I'm still waiting..... The bad part when it is acting up you can't use cruise control.

Team,

Does anyone know if an always-on ABS fault light can be related to dirty wheel sensors, a corroded wheel sensor connector, or other less costly fix? Will flushing the "old" brake fluid help in the pump or fluid flow sensors? It was an intermittent, but now it is always in alarm.

Being an '18 CTD Big Horn, will my Autel code reader be able to read or reset the ABS code if I use the 12 + 8 Connector Diagnostic Cable Fit for Chrysler Autel? And, when I enter my VID intheAutel, it defaults to a 2017 Ram is what shows on the Autel. As I understand it, in 2018 model year, Chrysler created a "firewall" to prevent altering alarm algorithm settings and resets.

Thanks in advance,

@MJCs2018BigHorn4x4CTD,
You need to get the security bypass cable to get into the system. This is the one I got for my FIL truck to use with AlfaOBD software: https://www.kaodtech.com/product-page/security-module-bypass. It's $55 and worth it to be able to get into the new system that they did. Depending on the mileage, might be worth doing a brake fluid flush. I did mine with around 150k on the clock, then used AlfaOBD to run ABS pump purge. Felt a difference after it was done. Brake fluid attracts moisture and once to much moisture in system can create issues. Good luck hunting issue down and maybe someone else has other insight.

I used the AEV PROCAL BYPASS HARNESS KIT.

Will have to Google that and find a place that has it, it was around $30, but if the one above has decent shipping and is in stock, it's probably a wash if they add shipping to the AEV one

Not familiar with Autel.

There are alot of ABS codes so you will need to narrow it down a little for sure on the light deal.

But here are some more generic sheets that I found, some of these are listed in most of the codes as procedures to perform, you can read thru it.

There are some codes related to the brake pedal as well.

I've been having the same issue with a 2017 Longhorn. I just figured out, while doing brakes, that I have bad wheel hubs in the front end. Drivers side is worse than the passenger side. The wheel sensors are mounted in the hubs and I'm thinking they are related to the ABS and traction control codes getting thrown, since there is slop in the hubs from worn out bearings. I am getting ready to replace them and crossing my fingers that it solves my ABS issue as well. Will update when complete.

If you have slop you sure will have the ABS be gone as there is only the size of hair of air between the sensor and the tone wheel. With a gone bearing the tone wheel eats the sensor almost instantly.
