I am sure that this question has been over discussed but I can't seem to find the answer. First a quick introduction. I have owned a 93 and 99 Dodge that I had fun modifying but I have been out of the loop for a while. I purchased an 2005 which had so many problems Chrysler brought it back. I just bought a 97 Quad Cab.

Question: The ABS light is on. Every once in a while it will go out. How do you fix this?

The brakes were done before I bought it and they said that they replaced the ABS unit that is under the hood. (I don't know what that means?)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

They repalced the Controller antilock brake (CAB). It should be located near the master cylinder on the inner fender.

The light is illuminated if the RWAL malfunction or stored diagnostic trouble codes.

I would check the rear brake speed sensor connector located on top of differential.

You can check for codes (through 16-way data link connector under dash near steering column.

I had the exact same problem on my recently departed 1998. It was the vehicle speed sensor on the rear differential. It was intermittant at first, then the ABS light stayed on progressively longer. Finally, the speedometer stopped working below 5 MPH, then 10 MPH, etc. Easy fix, and did not cost that much.
