Mopar has discontinued the modulator (the hydraulic portion of the ABS control unit). You can still purchase the whole control module for 600-900 dollars depending on which dealer is selling it. And you get the whole control which includes the hydraulic and the electronics and computer part as best I can make out from the DODGEPARTS DIAGRAM. The computer part sits on top of the hydraulic modulator.

My modulator has sprung a leak and needs repair or replacement. Is there a service anywhere that will rebuild or service the hydraulic portion? I have no problem with shipping my unit to a shop somewhere and waiting for it to be fixed. My truck is not a daily necessity but it is a necessity.

turns out my unit abs modulator is leaking where the pump mates with the main assembly. There must be a shaft seal there. I haven’t taken anything apart yet, still driving the truck after replacing the hydro boost. Keeping brake fluid topped off for now.

It was a long time ago, but the neighbor sent his wife's Jaguar ABS to someone back east and had it rebuilt. Not sure who it was but I would guess if you google it someone will come up that can repair it..

If you haven't done so yet do a search for abs module repair video for dodge ram. The one I watched is by north carolina prepper. The only thing that seals the two pieces is a rubber gasket that can go bad over time.

hope this helps

Thanks,
I am slowly getting my search worked out. So far I am finding that if I don't use the word "pump" in the search terms, I get swamped with stuff about the electronic portion, a part of ABS hell I lived through 13 years ago, where speedometer went erratic, brake light stayed on etc. Going to dig in for that video.

My search was "dodge ram abs module repair video". The you tube video I referenced is a repair to the circuit board, but it is a good video showing taking apart the module. It also shows where the seal can go bad.

UPDATE: I unfortunately reacted to the information on wholesalemopar website which showed the pump module discontinued. After chasing around after some used parts (couldn't find a rebuild source) I decided to actually call wholesale mopar. They still can order the part and so I jumped on a new one. Any used part I got would most likely be 17 or so years old. I just did not want to go through the whole process of swapping the parts and bleeding the brakes 3 or 4 times to only have the used one fail soon also. Bleeding after ABS replacement will be a new experience.

BTW I have a theory why my ABS pump module finally sprung a leak. When the ABS controller failed 13 years ago it caused the abs pump to run constantly so I was told by the previous owner. He had a new controller put on in warranty but the pump module life could have been shortened by overheating. Since I hear the abs pump module is a low failure rate part, I got the short end because of the effects of the controller failure earlier. Mind you it is just my theory.

When I bought the truck in 2007 the ABS control module failed again, causing the speedometer to go erratic and brake light to stay on. I had that controller repaired by people who claimed to know why they failed and solved with beefier parts. It has performed well.
