ABS problems, pump code

I finally made it to the dealer yesterday to have them scan my truck, I have an ABS code that Smarty doesn't read, both my brake light and ABS light stay on full time. The dealer said the code is active so they can't clear, he also said it was an ABS pump code.



So where do I look for this ABS pump ( I know nothing about ABS systems )? Me and the dealer both think it might be a wiring problem. The ABS code was set in February when I slid in to a curb during a snow storm, so we don't think there is a problem with the pump itself, just maybe knocked some wiring loose.



Just need to know where to look for pump and wiring.

how about checking the wheel sensor on the one you hit.

I pulled the front driver side front tire and could not see any damage there. But I was just doing some reading in the search forums and read about the ABS pump fuse, which I will check tonight after work ( I assume it's in the main fuse box ? ). With the dealer saying it's a pump code I'm hoping it's just a fuse or loose wiring harness. I just don't know where the ABS pump is, my assumption would be under the hood on the drivers side ? What does the pump look like.

The ABS pump is the on the drivers side behind the battery. It has all the lines comng out of it. It is a rarity that this part goes out. ABS light is a good indicator of a bad hub bearing. As far as the brake light???

If you know somone that can balance tires on the truck (big truck tire shop) they can spin the front tire fasssssst. you can then hear the bad bearing. Just in case you need to know.

Give us the code (2003, right?), so we can get a better idea whether the dealer's full of it or not.

The standard DODGE dealer tool for scanning codes from the dodge cummins computers (ECM, PCM and ABS) is a DRBII/III or newer version scanner. Any of these devices can scan and read ABS computer codes. These DRB scanners can also run a diagnostic procedure on the ABS and will display a code and english message as to the nature of the problem that set the code (such as pump motor failed to start, Right Front wheel sensor no output, ect. )

Point is that if you dealer used their standard DRB scanner they should have told you what component caused the code to set.

Well I feel somewhat foolish. I've fixed the problem, it was a blown fuse, #6 to be exact. It must have blown the fuse when I slid in to the curb, clear back in Feb. Can't believe I've driven around so long looking at the darn lights, without checking fuses.



I have to give TDR the credit for the easy fix, I did a search on ABS pump and found someone that had a blown #6 fuse, with the same lights ( ABS, Brake ) I had on. It saved me a $75 diagnostic fee, I love TDR .



P. S. It only took about 2 minutes of driving to clear the lights, after I replaced the fuse.
