Has anyone setup a bypass switch for the abs system on a 96 2500?

I currently have to pull the 40a fuse to disable the ABS while I am not on pavement.

I need to look at diagrams for a convenient wire to put a switch on.

Or will a main system brake warning light cause the abs to not function? That would be easy to trigger and when the fuse is pulled the light on anyways...

Thank you

The light was on in my '97 and I just unplugged the unit. I tried to troubleshoot it to correct the problem, but the truck wasn't co-operating so I said the heck with it. Light went out, and no adverse effects.

Well my ABS works normally.

I want to be able to disable it from within the cab when ever I am in a situation where ABS would not be ideal, like gravel, dirt, mud, snow, ect...

I am thinking there has to be a way to put it into limp mode without long term effects. If I pull the fuse in can take up to 2 weeks for the light to reset on the system.

What if you used and inline switch to the abs tone rings. The tone rings are what allow the abs to work. I will be repacking my hubs next month and i'll disconnect the abs to see what happens. I was in an extreme off road enviroment years ago and literally was standing on the pedals do to the grade and had fears of not stopping do to the abs allowing the wheels to continue rotation. The next safe area, I pulled the fuse to help insure stopping when I pressed the pedal. Also, in my 01, when you remove the fuse you lose the use of the windshield wipers.

Yeah I currently pull the fuse when hitting an off-road area but I am looking for an easy in cab option.

I will have to look at the electrical schematics and plan a precision cut and bypass switch.

Okay. I have done a little more research.

It looks like if the sense wire from the brake switch to ABS control is disconnected/open, the ABS will not know the the braking is happening to activate it.

Any thoughts?
