Has anyone used or heard of using Acetone as an additive to increase milage?

My brother send me an article about using Acetone to increase milage in gas powered vehicles and the research was done by a well known lab and some info dates back to the early 80's. His neighbor used some on a recent trip to Colorado and increased his milage by 3 mpg. over the same trip last year.

My brother has a Dmax and ask me if I had seen or heard anything about using Acetone since I belong to the TDR. I have told him so much about the info on this site he considers it the place to go for info. He got the Dmax because his wife did not like the noise of the Dodge.

Thanks for any info provided.

Don't know about the acetone deal, but I was told that using tolulene (sp?) could raise the octane level in gasoline a bit. May be cheaper to buy higher octane gas to start with than to buy enough of the other to raise it a few points. Wonder if their tests reflected the acetone cost in the overall fuel savings, or only demonstrated mpg improvement?

Seriously though, I don't think I would be putting a KNOWN de-greaser solvent such as acetone into my diesel fuel - especially when the diesel fuel acts as the lubricant / cooling agent for the injection pump! Sounds like a death wish! Most diesel additives actually include a lubricant component to help that situation.

Looking at your sig - keep B. O. M. B. ing the CTD - If you can keep your right foot off the floorboard, your mileage will either remain the same or actually improve with some upgrades. Look up my profile for mods on my '99 - at 268000 miles, I'm getting approx 2 mpg better mileage than it did when new. So long as the black cloud doesn't start following me around, that is!! New was approx 20 mpg, now is 21-22 mpg. Many highway mile & fuel logs to back it up too.

All depends on how heavy the right foot gets - same as with a gasser... ... ... .
