Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Selecting a Tuner

I was wondering if the advanced timing from my smarty hurts the bottom and helps the top on the dyno? These 2 runs were done on a different day, and you can clearly see a small drop below 1750 but above that you can clearly see the smarty work. The smarty run was on SW9. I should have triied SW8 to see the difference.

Any ideas,

John

I love the smarty so don't take this the wrong way. I did dyno the smarty on just 8 with a edge comp 5x5 hurt power peak by 43hp. But the truck drives 10times better you would never think or feel the loss. This truck was a 5spd with 66mm turbo, smarty made the turbo spool a lot faster (not as smokey in town) bottom end feels very strong. I will dyno the other levels later. . level 8 hurt top but helped bottom.

I love it too and probably couldn't live without it!

Olee, the CON-OFE you sold me is rated at 1000TQ right, is that at the wheels? If so I'm over it's rating by 1TQ :--)

I'll Back Olee on that, Its amazing in the diffrence on this truck. You really cant feel that 43 hp. Id say on a lower level on 5x4 the truck will do much better!
Its alot easier to drive as well! Now its time for a clutch!

:-laf :-laf Yes sir! at rear wheels. . there rated on the safe side

guys what i found on the dyno with the smarty on 8 with everything in my sig was smarty did loose me 34 hp so i tried level 6 and only lost 30, i wanted to keep going but three runs was all i bought. i went from no smarty at 497 then sw8 463, then sw6 467, no torque read out. then at the track i tried sw2 and gained a couple hundredths over my sig, and sw4 i lost a couple hundredths. We tried sw2 on an 01 and it DID NOT over ride torque management, that said. I love the smarty, and i don't know how well it would have done if i didn't have a drag comp maybe better, but you deffinatly can tell a difference driving on the street. I just don't think drag racing and where you are already at the line with boost ready to go it doesn't make that big of a difference.

Yeah, quite a few post I have read had also said this.

Hp is torque multiplied by RPM the result is divided by 5252.

Hp = (TQ x RPM ) / 5252

You can see that higher the RPM the higher the Hp. Thats the number that gets pulled off the dyno. Everyone seems to care about Hp.

But.....

What you feel in the seat of your pants is the effect of torque. Thats the number that gets stamped by your butt and pulled off the front of the seat. :)

An example I think about often is the 2000+ cubic inch cat crawler diesel engine that produces less that 200 Hp.
