Install question

Well, my Mega Cannon arrived. I purchased it + the pre filter from Mr. Bobs. I'm trying to install it, but can't get the damn filter minder off my old box. Any hints or tricks. I don't want to break it.

Thanks.

Chris

My filter minder was tough to get off. I used an old screwdriver that had no sharp edges and poked at the rubber around the edges and got it off. To get in on the new filter assembly, I had to use a small amount some oil to get it to go in. Don't use much, cause if you get oil on your fingers that makes it much, much harder, and I used the same screwdriver to work the rubber into the hole.

The Filter Minder was the one feature in this system I just didn't like... . seems useless to me given the anal attention I pay to what's under my hood.

I went to an auto parts store and they sold me a rubber/brass plug that fits in the hole and has a nut to tighten. As you tighten, it expands and seals any possible gap. It's smaller and looks good.

I plan on starting a thread about my Mega Cannon install and first impressions. I will add a picture or two also. One thing I will say is the filter minder was a bit** to get off and then on again. I think with this product it's pretty worthless too. I would rather they just didn't have the hole for it.

filterminder question

Guys, after you got the filter minder in the Mega Cannon how is the fit? My filterminder fit in the Mega Cannon is not near as tight as in the OEM box. I can fairly easily spin the filterminder in the Mega Cannon hole and it even has a little up and down play. It is as if the hole in the Mega Cannon is just a tiny bit on the large size. I'm concerned if I'm getting a good seal. I was very careful to not cut, nick, etc the filterminder rubber when removing it from the OEM airbox ( and yes what a bear it was to come out, but it popped into the Mega Cannon rather easily... which has me wondering now if it fits and is sealing properly).

I agree. The fit is not as tight as the OEM. I put a bead of the sealing lubricant that I had left over from the K&N to the outside edge of the filterminder. I also noticed that when the truck is running, it sucks the filterminder down tight to the metal AFE bracket. I do not think it's anything to worry about.

plug for filter minder

24V-DSL

what auto parts store did you find the plug at? i'm not as worried about the seal as i just don't like the filter minder and would just as soon get rid of it.

love my mega cannon. man, does it suck the air! :D

k.vickers and stick....

I got the plug at Carquest. Just took the unit in and told them what I was trying to do. They call these rubber expansion plugs.

Stick... if you're talking about the Outerwears pre-filter, I think it's machine washable. Call them at 800. 967. 3450 to verify.

AFE also has a pre filter. I purchased one at the same time I bought my Mega Cannon. It too is washable. I will be posting some pictures today in new thread along with some comments.

24v-Dsl is right about Bob!

I just ordered one from Bob, he has a great package price for TDR members that includes the Mega Cannon, Pre-Filter, and Cleaning-Kit. He loves to talk Cummins, I called to order a filter and spent about 45 minutes on the phone talking about different BOMBs and upgrades.
