I was thinking about getting a air intake, I like the banks ram air system but I'm sure its big money, anyone using it and if so do you like it? Also the afe type set up thanks for the input

There are several out there that are big money. The two you mentioned are definately up there in the $4-500 range. I did some looking around wanting (needing) to get some more airflow. I settled on the S&B system for a couple of reasons. First, it is half the money of those other two, second, it is an enclosed box, the AFE stage one isn't nor are some others, third, they have tested the filter to make sure it meets the dirt removal standards need to protect the engine. With AFE you need to get the proGaurd 7 filter and I don't know what Banks uses though they used to use K&N filters which I wouldn't touch. The S&B claims 40% airflow increase on a flow bench. It might not be the biggest gain out there, results are difficult to compare, but it more than meets my needs.

The other intake restriction is the air horn that goes into the manifold. I am replacing that as well with a part from CFM. Like the S&B it also claims a 40% increase in flow over stock. These two combined should more than meet the needs of my 100 hp box.

I think going with a mega flow intake and not replacing the air horn my be a little self defeating. Something to think about anyway.

Look at the DPP Towing intake. Leaves the stock airbox but improves the way it gathers air and delivers it to the turbo. Gets air from down low and uses the Cool Black Hose to deliver it to the turbo. Seems to work really good. If you want the Amsoil filter, it make cleaning a snap, some low pressure air, and the filter is guaranteed for 100K. . Scotty

Not to stray too far from the original post but I installed the CFM+ intake horn last night and had a good chance to test it out. My S&B airbox hasn't arrived yet so this is with a stock airbox, "swiss cheesed" on the bottom and a gutted turbo air tube (between airbox and turbo). My EGTs went WAY down, turbo response time is noticably shortened. I can feel it in the seat of my pants and see it on the gauges. I can now safely run my 60 hp setting without any fear of high EGTs, and the 100 hp setting with no problem. Used to be the 100 hp setting would push EGTs up to 1500 in no time, now they jump, but make a much slower climb to 1450 making it easy to back out if necessary. That 100 hp setting used to scare me and I just plain didn't use it.

The moral of the story is... I believe there is a huge restriction in the stock airhorn. Actually there is, and you can clearly see it when you remove it. Doing just the airbox and intake tube would leave this restriction in place. I am excited to see how much more the EGTs drop with the airbox/filter/tube but have to admit, that mod alone probably would not have solved my EGT issue.
