Well I know that for a long time people on here including myself have been trying different air setups and have found some great equipment. While undergoing searching for some parts for my wrecked truck I found some cool stuff and even more so found some cool dealers for it. I am goign to link the info so that you guys can check out this stuff but I am currently looking at a group buy witha company on the compressors and air tanks. Let me know if you guys think this is worth the hassle of a group purchase or not but the guys I am talking with are pretty cool and like what I am talking about for applications.

12 Gallon air tank with 8 - 1/2" air ports including 1 on the bottom for easy draining. Right now the price on these is around $65 but may be able to do something with the GP

This is the ViAir 550c Compressor it is a 100% duty cycle at 100PSI rating and is 2. 9 CFM I am told this is a very popular choice for people doing lowered trucks and what not as it is a reliable unit. Pricing for the 550c is about $285 but again may be able to work it down a bit for a GP.

Again let me know what you guys think they also have the same tanks but in 5 gallon and 8. 5 gallon sizes. compared to some of the other compressors mentioned on this site I think the pricing is not too bad and if someone has already mentioned this model I am truly sorry if I duplicated information.

The compressor interests me. I already have a tank but let me know what you can do with a GP. Thanks.

I put a Porter Cable (from Home Depot) in the bed and just keep it pumped up. $275 for the entire thing. Runs my US Gear air operated e brake for about 4 days of driving.

Next is to put in full 120 AC power. Then can run the compressor or literally anything.

Just an idea,

Although the idea of the compressor in the bed is a good one there are some flaws to it for people like me. . (1) I use my bed space almost everyday and that would just be another thing in my way (2) I live in California land of the "free property without consent" (3) In order for you to run a compressor off of an inverter you would need a 2000 watt inverter as starting amperage of a motor can be up to 4x that of its rated running amperage; Inverters do not typically like such a surge and the ones that can handle it cannot for very long so if the tank has high preasure already and it fires off like when running air tools you could be starting it often and at high load. Just a few thought I came up with when I installed my 12v compressor in the beggining. If you would like to see pictures of my 1000 Watt inverter install you can see them at http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mc...s.yahoo.com/ph/mcrossle@pacbell.net/my_photos

IT is a Statpower Prowatt 1000 (used to be 800 for some reason) I can run most anything I wish to but be carefull you can take a serious toll on the batteries if you use it often.

I have an onboard air system. I use a 1. 5 gallon tank mounted along the frame on the passenger side.

Not very much room under the truck for much larger a tank. You may have better luck than I did, also I have a short box.

Something I do to add more capacity is use a portable tank in the bed that can be quickly and easily removed. My tank is 7 gallon. These portable tanks are available almost anywhere and are cheap.

Yes for teh short boxes you are limited on space for us long bed guys there is a lot of unused tucked away space. There are also 5 and 8. 5 gallon models available. The guy I am working with wants some idea of how many we would be talking about to give me pricing however it sounds like he might give a discount on a variety of things say we order a bunch of compressors and tanks but all together he is after a quanity sale more than a specific item I think.

I would recommend putting together a kit consisting of compressor, tank, fittings, hoses, valves (blow off or safety), pressure switch (or does the posted compressor have an automatic on at 0 - 85 psi, and off at 145).

The reason that I have not done a kit is that not everyone's needs are the same already we have seen that a 12 gallon tank may be too big for some and some may also have parts for a system that they want to keep. The 550c has an internal blow off valve at 175 psi I was told by the dealer that they had problems with the first release of them as manypeople were not using the right types of switches as blowing apart tnaks and what not when they approached the 300 PSI range... I think I can start an order when we approach 5 units that way I have something feasable to take to him. So anyone who is absolutly in let me know on here so I can count but 5 should be rather quick.

I'm interested in what you can come up with but don't count me yet. Holeshot has got me back on the PTO idea and I haven't been able to proove it unjustifiable just yet. Thanks.

I would be interested in a 5 or 8 gallon tank. Could you supply dimensions for those. Also are these tanks coated on the inside.

Doug

for those who haven't done this type of install... all the fittings and pieces are available at truck supply places, also most good napa's have a reasonable supply or can get it. [suggest the hard nylon looking hose and compression fittings] these fittings & hoses and pressure switches are all common on truck brake systems and air ride set-ups

I built mine so it can be removed from the bed of the truck if I have to haul a load of manure or gravel.

The cabover fits with it in the bed so I can refill the tires ofter getting back on the highway in Baja.

The power source is the factory trailer hitch, so I can bring it to any truck with a standard 7 pin connector.
