5th wheel vs gooseneck

Attitude Toy Hauler

I've been looking at air ride hitches hoping to buy another Easy Rider Air Hitch but they evidently have closed their doors. I see there is another mfg. that appears to be similar called Air Safe Hitch. Does anyone have any experience or know if the hitch is a good one? It uses a nylon type material for bearings (slides) vs. bearings that the Easy Rider used so I don't know anything about the quality or effectiveness of the hitch. Any help would be appreciated.

Based on guidance here, I purchased a "5th Airborne by Reese" a couple of months ago, just got back from 5000 miles with it. Based on my experience with and without it, I would highly recommend it to anyone pulling a fifth wheel trailer.

I use a Trail Air pin box on my 5th wheel, which utilizes an air bag and shock absorber, and I am very happy with it. Sometimes I almost forget the trailer is back there. I have a 32' Jayco.

Thank you for the replies, I have seen the air pin boxes but had never really known if they worked well or not. From the posts it seems that might be a good alternative. My pin box is almost straight up and down as where the air pin boxes are more horizontal. Does the angle matter as far as frame loading from the additional leverage? It sure would a easy addition.

I had the same concern as mine is pretty much straight up and down, but the way this one is made, that is not a problem. Well engineered, well built, and very effective. It is still not entirely clear to me why it works as well as it does, it has an air spring and shock absorber - and it really works well.

Air pin box

I ordered my TrailAir pin box from the factory. They wanted to know the make/model of my factory pin box. The TrailAir geometry is exactly like my old pin box. I installed it myself.

If the geometry is not identical a call or letter to the trailer manuf. is required to have them OK any new hitch. If it is too long it may stress or break the hitch framework and... ... .....

YOU WILL THEN BE YOUR OWN WARRANTY STATION.

Jack in Alaska, we have an Alpenlite and unfortunately the mfg. has closed its doors due to the present economy so I can't call the builder. It scares me about possibly stressing the frame but then I see others such as Don/Tx that have had good luck. It just seems to my uneducated perspective that if you create a lever something has to pick up the additional load. Thanks for the great information.
