Competition air shutoff update

I have a few questions about this air-shut off... . I was actually just going to post this today but someone beat me to it!!!!! I take it most guys are going with the electric solonoid right? I have been searching around with very little info found on this. My class requires the 2" ring on the tailgate or bumper for shut down and when I built my Super Stock gasser a few years back I just used a trailer-break-away switch which I asume would work just ask good for this to break the polarity to the solinoid there for closing the valve?????

Could you also give me an idea on price and does anyone else know of a different source or have any other idea's???

Thanks in advance... Ryan

Yup, the trailer break away switch works great on mine, don't forget the three way switch in the cab also. pics of the valve installed are on my web page at the bottom of the motor tab.

What kind of 3-way switch is it your running in the cab? would this be something available at a place like Jegs or Summit or just any automotive store.

Is this a new offering by this company, or were they just "discovered" by the diesel crowd? Seems like everytime air shut off is mentioned, there name is in the same sentence, no matter what board your one right now.

Well I contacted them because BBD had bought one last year and really likes it--I talked to Ryan down there and I told him that I thought these things would being selling more and more as the diesel crowd got involved--so he made an offer and I jumped on it--

there's always different ways to skin a cat, but this one looks to be priced(I need to get firm price on the manual) in the manual configuration equal to if not less than a big ol' butterfly contraption--

I have yet to see another electric activated air shut off----these are made for diesel engines also--they come in 3", 5" and 8" sizes with some different adapters to cover different pipe sizes--but there are adapter size limitations tied to each size valve---chris

wow, looks like something to get into manufacturing!!!! There are about 12+ guys just up here in my neck of the woods in Ontario, Canada that need them! Actually... thinking about that and being on the creative side I wonder how hard it would be to set something up..... looking at there valve it looks very similar to something like a pack brake. I think I might just explore my options and even look into making one. I have all the tools includding a brand new Lincoln 175Tig I just took out of the box last week!!!!!!!!

Ted,

I researched the crap out of them for a couple years, and Chalwyn seemed to always come up $500 cheaper, and more compact.

I built mine to shut off with a cable. EDIT: the cable releases the trigger/pin, the spring closes the valve.

was just looking at dhra pro-street rules, they state " a spring loaded emergancy air shut off is mandatory) This style shutoff is not spring loaded is it?

Thanks Travis

I would call or email one of the DHRA officials and get a ruling on this--if it's ok for sled pulling (sled puller) then I can't understand why it won't work for drag racing---even if you have to go with the manal one---chris

below is a link to the specs:

Yes it is spring loaded when power is applied it releases the mechanism holding open the valve and the spring slams it shut.

On the three way switch its just a heavy duty three way toggle. I can send power to the breakway way on the rear bumper or activate the valve by throwing the switch the other direction.
