Did a little tow test with my SRW Aisin 3:42 geared SRW 2015. We moved his old 98 Travel Supreme 40' 17K+ dry weight 5th wheel in Eastern Washington from Desert Aire to Mill Bay in Manson at Chelan, Wa. Last mile was to the top of the mountain above the Casino. Did not tow much different than our loaded 16K 5er. This big boy is only 8" longer than out new Bighorn 39'4" trailer. Maybe it in really longer than 40'?

Any new Ram 3500 SRW, with any transmission and any rear axle ratio will run off and hide with a 17k trailer. For those that don't think so, just trade me your truck for 1 hour and try to catch me with mine:D

My '91 D-250, with 263hp/650tq, 3.54 gears and 5spd, it does have air bags and exhaust brake. This is a normal load for it, 15,300 lbs loaded trailer and does great, but nothing like a new truck would do.

I would have liked to scale the old Travel Supreme and RAM together. I am guessing I was around 26K combined with that tank in tow. The truck was down in the rear a lot more that our 16K Big Horn puts it. Ran right up the East side of Columbia River at Vantage bridge at 60 MPH, from a dead stop at the bottom as we pulled over to check tire and hub temps with the infrared heat gun before merging onto I-90.

"When you get it out west on a 4 mile long 8-9% grade keep us informed as to the performance."

How about miles of 14%? 33K combined weight.

BTW, while climbing that last mile up the mountain the fan clutch locked up and was louder on and on longer than I have ever heard it. Second gear and climbing a steep winding road. Trans temps went up to 201. The picture from the site looking back down at the lake flattens out the terrain much more than it is in person.

Yes, I would guess you were over 26k, that's some rough country. I crossed the Columbia River at The Dalles on Hwy 97 to Yakima with an empty trailer and that was enough. I was on my way to Seattle to pick this up, I come back on a little different route:) My truck was still a gasser then, not fun at all. The mountain south east of Pendleton sucked the fire out of the 'ole big block.

Good old cabbage patch, we went that way both directions at 24.5k this last year and will go up it again in late Sept this year. Good test of rig both directions.

The only thing I'll miss about driving the old NV5600 is the expression on the valet drivers face when I hand him the keys and he realizes it's a manual transmission that he doesn't know how to operate.

After one of the parking Valet kids damaged my 1969 firebird 400 fender, I park my own...
