Thanks MtnRider. Looks like these bypass cables will give the user a second OBD port, at least the second website says that. Since my original factory port is now occupied full time with the plug for my electric side steps, would that still be functional for my steps after the bypass is installed? (I should probably be asking the bypass provider!) Perhaps most importantly to me, is there any way to get the AlfaOBD to work with an iPhone?

There is no way for it to work with an iphone. Most people in your situation just buy a cheap android tablet.

The cables plug into the existing port and give a second port that has all the functionality of the existing port plus they bypass the security module. If you leave the cable hooked up full time it behaves like a 17 an earlier. You can also just hook it up to the existing port when changing settings with AlfaOBD then disconnect and tuck out of the way and use the existing port like you currently do. MX and AlfaOBD only need to be connected when changing settings. Not like a programmer that needs to remained connected.

So far I have

Enabled DRL's
Enabled DRL user menu on 8.4
Enabled fog's with highbeams
Enabled trailer naming on 8.4
Global down, thou I haven't used it
Increased headlight voltage on dad's '17 to match my '18.

What I have wanted to do but been unable

Increase fuel tank size
Activate compass on 8.4

The exhaust brake is part of the ECM so we can't adjust that with AlfaOBD

I have a 3500 so I haven't messed with TPMS settings.
I just bought the KIWI 4 for my 2014 1500 Eco-diesel. I am still trying to figure stuff out since it came without a book or manual. From what I've seen on the phone app, all I can do is "monitor" things on my truck UGH! Almost seems like I wasted $129...

Alfa has paid for itself 10 fold for me already. Just last week my wife lost the key to her jeep so we were down to 1 key. I bought 2 keyfobs on Amazon for $20 each, Went to Ace hardware and had them cut for $5 then used Alfa to program them. So $45 for 2 working keyfobs. Dealer wanted about $300 each to do it! I also made a spare for a Ram as well.

Download AlfaOBD for PC windows installer

Download AlfaOBD for PC rar archive

I have no experience with the windows version as most everyone is on the Android one. I know I have seen a few complaints here and there tough. Have no idea about the OBD cable also. Everyone I know uses a OBDlink MX bluetooth adapter. So I cautiously say proceed at you own risk. Maybe you have already researched that cable but it is not familiar to me.

Thanks
I’m just at the beginning stages of my research

Your first link is for a Ford specific cable. I had a $9.95 bluetooth adapter that worked just fine, but I ended up purchasing the OBDLink adapter for $89. Also purchased the same cable ($55) you have a link to that bypasses the security module.

Well maybe it will be handier to get a Android Tablet and the Blue tooth adapter, then i wont have cables and a bulkier laptop in the mix.
I really appreciate the input and suggestions. Good stuff!

As long as your laptop supports Bluetooth you should be able to use the MX with either.

thanks so much lpennock, zag2 and mtnrider. looking forward to getting this up and running.

ps that costco price is only yesterday and today, then it goes back to regular price.

I went with the Android Tablet, got and installed the Bypass Cable, and have the obdlink mx+ and the alfaobd software installed. Everything communicates as it should. Watched a few YouTube on setting the Tire inflation thresholds. It seems I may need to get my 4 digit pin# from the dealer I purchased the truck from according to some of the stuff i have watched. Any of you know anything about this? And is the dealer is only place I can get the pin from? Do I talk to service or parts?

You get the pin from the parts department. You take in proof of ownership and ask for the Key Cut Code and Security code printout. The Security code is a 4 digit code.

There is an app you can down load that can pull the pin but then you have to pay for what the dealer is supposed to give you for free. Some dealers have been A** about giving it even though FCA says they are supposed to.

Thanks for the info, Ill call em up and see if they will give it to me over the phone, save a trip I hope.

They are not suppose to give over the phone. They need to verify ownership before giving out. This information allows anyone to make a new key for your truck so it is controlled information. Locksmith cannot even get the security code, they get a temp security code that has a limited life time.
