I have been looking into new CB's for a while because my old Radio Shack special bit the big one. So one day I'm talking to my brother about radios because he drives a truck for a living and he say's, "tell you what, I'll make you a heck of a deal, I have a Ranger that needs a new battery and I'll give it to you" Great, for that price I'll take it. Since this radio started life as a hamm it doesn't have a power lead for memory and relies on an internal battery for channel memory. $50 bucks later I'm out the door with a new battery, mic cleaning and full test out of operations, now I just need to install it. So I'm thinking about a Brolin mount but when I place the radio down where it would go it sticks up above the seat and I don't like the way it would look so I start to do some thinking and now my brain is hurting. I decide that since I'm this far I guess I'm going to have to butcher my dash a little because that's where it's going, but I want to be able to take the radio out and have things look normal. Well since I've got a 5 speed I've got that little junk collector pocket and I figure I can cut that up and get a used one from the junk yard if I need to replace it. So here's some pictures of my half finished product, I still need to get some little rubber door molding type of stuff to put around the edges to clean it up but I like the way it turned out. I had to make my own mounting bracket and used some existing hole behind the junk collector to fasten to. I used some 1/2 by 1/8 band iron stuff and bent it and drilled and made essentially a 3 piece bolted together mount that allows the radio to move a little as you install the cover. Should've taken pictures of the mount. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
