I have a 2007 6. 7 cab-chassis 3500 with almost 17,000 miles on it. At 12,000 miles on a run to Dallas, TX my truck started smoking like a mosquito fogger. So I ran some usld diesel injector cleaner in it & the smoke gradually disappered. . Then the next day it said the Catalyst was full & service required... well so far the dealer has replaced the converter, the ecm, re-flashed the computer & now there doing a flow test on the injectors... When I talked to the parts guy he said he had a whole pile of converters that had been replaced waiting to be sent back to Dodge. He also said that they have changed design on them 3 times already. .

This is my first post & was wondering if anyone else is having this problem.

I appreciate all you guys on the "Bleeding" Edge taking one for the team on this new EPA motor.

You are not the only one reporting big problems it seems. Just your statement about a "pile of converters" leads me to believe that there is a potentially big problem out there and that D/C did not do too much testing of these new motors.

I think that the one member on this board "EB" is the only one who has high milage and no problems.

I am in need of a Cab-Chassis, but will not purchase one till at least the end of 2008 depending on if a major fisasco is unfolding on these engines.

Hopfully there will be a way to remove these new devices from the trucks in the near future with out computer problems.

For now just get to the dealer ASAP when you see the slightest problem before the warranty runs out.

Well I haven't had any problems as of yet and I like my C&C even with the 305HP motor. After the long trip to Kansas (4K round trip) the motor is still flawless and I am impressed that you don't even notice the new emissions. As far as the issues in the future, who knows but the 100K warranty is good enough for me, and KWAYNE I don't know what your talking about, I have followed all posts on this sight and even on the other sites and never once have I heard of this yet. Even the condition you have given as an example doesn't make since. The one big problem on the new emissions (DPF) is it wont show any smoke because it will filter out all particulates and therefore not smoke as it has been explained to me by my diesel mechanic that has been trained on these new systems. As an example: you lose an injector and your truck is running poor but it will not smoke which is a normal indication of a bad injector, and you don't know as you dont see any smoke. I was warned for that very reason, not to chip the engine because you wont see any smoke if a problem exsists. FATCAT, can you please give an example of these posts you are talking about as reporting as you have mentioned

Yes, your right, it is supposed to catch all the smoke when its working properly, but it can only hold so much until it just cant take anymore... My dealer service rep told me that they are starting to have allot come back in with same problems as mine... She said there were 4 that came in last week. I thought I just had a bad truck until she told me that dodge already has a re-flash for the ECM... to correct the problem. . I just wanted to let everone know what to look for in case this happens to them. . I love my new truck & loved my 2001 that I sold ... It had 349,000 miles on it & I sold it to my customer & is still working. .

So far I am not really liking the news I am reading about the new trucks, maybe I will hold my 01 for a bit longer. 50k for a truck GULP I cant afford to have it in the shop on an off.

SKY I wouldnt let it scare you away from owning one of these new trucks alot of people who already have the new engine are having some teething problems but the things you read on here are a small amount of problems that really happen every day . Its not like every 6. 7 owner is here on the forum im sure there have been many trucks that have been problem free and alot of people frequent these forums only after they have experienced a problem. MY 2 cents

Well, I haven't heard of many, but a few of the cab and chassis models have had some problems. It seems that it is mostly the pickup models that are having problems. My truck has now got 48,160 miles on it and it has been perfect. The only thing I've done is change oil and filters. You can't say these trucks won't smoke, because mine did during the regen cycles for about the first 5000 miles. I haven't noticed it after that. That was also when there was no ULSD available in my area. Since it is available I haven't noticed any smoke. I have never had a message on my overhead about the DPF. I have never used any fuel additive. When mine smoked, it did smoke like a mosquito fogger, but it was a blue/white smoke, not the black smoke like you usually associate with a diesel. I don't know what to tell you, mine has been perfect, might go to pot tomorrow, but to this point, it's perfect. There have been no problems at all at my dealer with the 07 Dodge 6. 7 trucks.

Just an update... The dealer has ordered another ECM computer for the truck & rented me truck. . The chrysler rep. still hasnt called me though. . I will let yall know when they tell me whats wrong with truck.

As of today I still don't have my truck back yet. The service writer says that she thinks dodge will have a massive recall for the 6. 7 because they are having so many trucks starting to come back in with same problem... The last truck that came back only had 187 miles on it when the catalyst full message & check engine light came on.

That is real encouraging ... Did Dodge / Cummins test these new emission setups before sending them out?

I wonder if Kenworth is going to have the same problem with their new PX-6 engines (rebadged 6. 7L Cummins).

This thread is all the more reason why I'm thinking about getting a '05 or '06 5. 9 when we get back to the States next year.

I got my truck back this morning. Dodge says it is a computer glitch & they updated my software after replacing the ecm. So far the light is staying off & it seems to be running better than before so maybe this will fix it I pray. She showed me one truck that came back yesterday that still had new dealer tags on it. . Im wondering if it is a certain manufacture date or location that’s having these problems.

So it's a ecm issue? If that's the case, it's not a "major recall"... its a software issue... . the dpf's are new, it's bound to happen... my 06 has 3 reflashes avail since i bought it... . not a big deal IMHO... .

... . it's not like it's shooting flames out the exhaust pipe or anything!

My 06 had 2 recalls and was finally reflashed two months ago and a year after I first complained. I like it fine but it doesn't shift anything like as smooth as my friend's 03 HO did. Now that I have driven his 68rfe I couldn't recommend an 06 48re to anyone unless they get the transmission shifting problems fixed.

I didn't intend to infer that i think the 48re is a quality transmission... it's the loosest pos i've ever driven..... i was trying to say that the 07. 5's aren't having doomsday problems like one of the previous posts inferred.

6. 7ctd, runs good at 7K miles. Happy Camper. Thanks Adam.

As far as the 48re transmission, 2001 Dodge, goes, I delivered big RVs from the factory for 54K miles and had no problems.

I am getting my 6. 7 back from the dealer this evening - in the span of 50 miles the MIL came on with the overhead reading "system ok", then the overhead jumped to Cat 90%, then heading out the next morning it jumped to cat 100%. Dealer said to just take it out on the highway, but they can drive home while waiting for parts on my truck and I can't - I would rather find out what's wrong. So far they reflashed it (made a big deal of it too - said they had to wipe the whole thing and reflash the boot code) and found one of the exhaust temperature sensors reading out of spec. They ordered the sensor, which should take a while, and said it is fine to drive it in the meantime. I'm not too confident these guys are on the ball . . .

This was faxed to my Dealer this afternoon from Chrysler:you can copy this & give this to your dealer in case they havent recieved this yet. .

To reset fault codes P1451,P2463... .

Key on (run position)/ engine off.

on StarScan;

>ECM

>misc. Functions

> select "reset Regenerative Filter Timers"

key off, Wait 10 Seconds

Key on, Start the engine

>Ecm

>misc functions

>select "mobile desoot- no minium soot load required"

as soon as possible, operate the truck at highway speeds ( about 2000 rpm works the best) for about a hour and verify the system has completed a regeneration cycle.

Where are you guys that are having problems located? The dealership here is being told by the Dodge techs that it's related to our altitude and they are waiting for a new reflash Thursday. They've had a couple other trucks shut down with 200 miles and one another 100 miles after they thought they got the problem fixed. I'll ask them if they've tried the method that was just listed.
