Just to update yall... I spoke to a Chrysler rep about 30 min ago & they are sending out another re-flash because the last didn’t take care of the problem. Also the EPA wants Chrysler to warn drivers when the catalyst if 50% full instead of 80% so we will have more time to idle the truck up... the ideal range is 2,000 rpms. I’m trying to get them to also make the chime louder when the overhead console warning is on cause it is not very loud & only chimes one time. So if you are listening to the radio you will never know that its not regenerating until the check engine light comes on at 90%

KWAYNE, I must be living proof that not all of the dump people are dead yet. You are going to have to explain this too me... 50% full instead of 80?... idle the truck up?... chime?... overhead console warning?... check engine light comes on at 90?... help me out here.

Hate to say it but I am liking my 98 more and more. These new trucks are sounding a little too complicated for me. Probably just getting older and have other things to worry about (other than a finicky new truck). Heck my wife and kids are enough maintenance as it is.

i have a mega cab 3500 with the manual transmission. its about to go into the shop for the second time on the 100% full cat filter. the truck has 4300 miles on it, the 1st time it had happen it had 1300 miles on it. the dealership in southern LA had no idea this was a problem(i dont live there, going home from offshore, truck shut down, left me on the side of the road). but i live west of houston TX, the dealer that i bought it from told me there was alot of bad ultra low diesel on the market in the gulf coast. where i brought the truck to in houston(NorthWest Dodge) told me to only run diesel from shell because it was the cleanest and the problem is because of bad diesel. Why are these 6. 7 2007 so dam sensitive to the diesel. my 2004. 5 5. 9 ran farm diesel with no problems and now i have to watch where i get my fuel from. this is bull****. i bought this truck to pull. not to pamper it like i live in the city. this isnt a city boy truck. i am liecened to pull 36,400lbs. i count on this truck to get a job done. at least my brother's father-in-law is a attrony for the lemon law here in texas. i know that if you are having problems be sure to keep for reciet from the first visit from the dealership because you may need it for the the lemon law.

anymore input from the dealers?

By the way, this is not a altitude problem. there are many trucks in the gulf coast region of texas that are having this problem. My dealer in Sealy tx replaced two engines, one a 5. 9 and one a 6. 7, They believe its bad diesel from ULSD. They average 6 to 12 trucks a week with our problems. I guess the upside is that we dont drive a FORD.

Sounds like an additional fuel/water separator inline will be required due to the sensitivity to the fuel we are seeing out there.

PaulBarker: is the issue with the fuel in your area due to too much sulfur? Water? What exactly?

Thanks,

Brad

Look at the Ford diesel site show me the multitude of 6. 4L problems being reported ... Not many. (And don't give me the 2nd grader response "go by a Ford then... ").

This is looking like Dodge has their own 6. OhOh now.

What a disaster. People are now scared to drive their new 6. 7L for fear of being stranded. And service departments full of dopes who can't find any "codes" and blame everything on "Bad Diesel". WHAT BUNCH OF BS!!!

I tell ya what, the TDR should have a $10,000 reward contest for the first person/company who can successfully remove this emissions junk and EGR valve. This would accomplish a lot ... and warranty wise, it looks like you don't have much to loose based on the stories of dealerships denying warranty work for virtually any reason.

I have been watching this board for some time now because I would like to a new truck soon ... I'll be putting a few thousand into my old truck for now.

Ford has had there fair share of problems, everybody knows about the 6. 0. but like the idiots they are, they started to make something out of that engine that would work and pull(but still not a 7. 3). they were getting all of the bugs out and then decided to redesign everything again. also, when the 7. 3 came out they had a crap load of problems too. a dealer nearby the house had three trucks that locked up on the lot. now my ford source is coming from a friend that works for the corporiate office of ford and not a dealership. they are worried that ford may not be around by 2015. we didnt get into all of that but it seems to be a bit out there!!!! anyways, these 6. 4l had there emission problems at the begining. i have been hearing there are problems with this twin turbo set up. what a sales pitch. you dont need twins unless need high boost with a crap load of hp. go drive 6. 4l for yourself because they still have turbo lag. i did cause i wanted one until i drove it.

at the moment i regret buying this 6. 7l. i should known better than to buy a 1st gen. but once these problems get worked out it will still be the choice truck to haul with. thats numbers not an opinion.

what they told me is that there is water and iron in the fuel(other stuff too but i dont remember, they said nothing about sulfer). i have yeat to get a water in the fuel light. i still think it is bull**** that i have to watch what type of to put in my truck. i miss the 5. 9, it was a very forgiving engine.

the first time, no. this time well yes and no. it went from 80 to 90 to 100 to 90 to 100 and now its back on 90. it is running fine on 90 but it blowing black smoke. also i am trying to keep the rpm's up. though when it hits 100 the truck backs off on power. and it sucks

I'd been carefully watching this thread since its inception and feel it's time for me to chime in (pun intended) with my converter experiences.

Like many others on this board my 3500 6. 7L auto, is a working truck. I drag 10k to 14k of equipment and trailer throughout the state of Florida for 80 percent of my total mileage, now showing 8k on the clock accumulated over three months of ownership.

Tuesday evening on my way home from work I stopped for fuel, when I started re-started the engine the overhead displayed converter 80 percent full, I pulled out of the parking lot and within one mile the display changed to converter full service required.

Early Wednesday morning I dropped to truck off at the dealer for service, around lunchtime the service manager called me and inferred the problem was my fault, he gave blame to a possibility of 4 things, not using low ash oil, not using 2007 compliant fuel, driving the truck to easy and high idle time. The truck's computer claims 40 percent of the engine hours are at idle. (I discovered later that the computer registers 5 percent or less throttle pressure as idle time)

On Wednesday afternoon Chrysler instructed the dealer to reset the regenerative filter timers and perform a mobile desoot.

First thing Thursday morning they sent the driver out to perform the mobile desoot, I'm under the impression that the mechanic working on my vehicle didn't feel confident that this actually solved the problem and requested that the vehicles stay overnight so they could test it again in the morning.

Friday morning Chrysler instructed the dealer to perform TSB 18-033-07, PCM re-flash. Friday afternoon I was told I could come pick up the vehicle it’s finished.

Three invoices required my signature, 1 for the rental covered by Business Link, 1 for the warranty repairs, and an invoices for approximately $60 worth of desooting time, that as the courtesy was being covered by authorization from the area Chrysler Rep, and again it was stressed that this was my entire fault and if it happened again I was going to be on my own.

The service manager said wait here and I will have you truck brought up by the diesel mechanic that worked on it he wants to talk to you!

With my owners manual in one hand and photocopies of pages from the manual referring to maintaining your vehicle / catalyst full, he preceded once again to inform me that as outlined in the manual it is my negligence that has caused this problem. So I asked him if it was going to have less than one mile of notice to stop what I’m doing and take the vehicle on a long high speed ride.

He said the new software flash should give me sufficient time and if I will modify my driving habits the truck should take care of itself. I have been instructed that this truck is designed to be under load and not babied. Furthermore he brought to my attention that the regeneration process although it takes 45 minutes needs a minimum of 45 minutes to begin its cycle, the vehicle needs to be under a load running at about 2000 RPMs to complete the regeneration if you step on the brake the process aborts and you must begin again.

For that it is worth the truck has required me to change the oil three times and I used Delo 400LE, I purchased my fuel from Murphy and Hess both are high-volume dealers and have 2007 compliant labels on their pumps. (driving too easy?) When the light turns green I roll into full throttle, if it is going to break, it's going to be under warranty. In my opinion there are two kinds of drivers, those that follow and those that lead, both can be seen in my review mirror.

So, glad to have my truck back and put this behind me I departed the dealership, as I made a U-Turn and headed home my fuel indicator light came on. I quickly did the math and the difference between my mileage in and my mileage out of the dealer is 335 miles, I sincerely hope somebody enjoyed spending the day cruising the interstate in my ride, at my expense! considering that they burned $80 worth of my fuel, added 335 miles, and I lost three days of use of my truck I'm not exactly pleased.

Well here we are Saturday morning and I'm now loaded up and three days behind schedule, anyone care to guess what happens next? I pulled out of the equipment barn, 1000 feet across the field turn onto the pavement and ding/ding, MIL, overhead displays converter full service required!

Now I’m scheduled to take it back Monday morning, I'm becoming increasingly stressed and growing angry by the minute, there's no telling how far the truck will go before quits. It obviously has less power either because it has d-rated or because the converter is plugged in the exhaust can't get out, maybe both. I don't trust driving it that this point.

I had to get a ride to Home Depot to pick up an additional roll of duct tape, I have my head wrapped tightly with one role and this is the only thing that's keeping it from exploding. I hope the second role be enough to get me through the weekend!

I hope you have better luck than Me!

the check engine light comes on at 80%, i found that out again today for the second time.

Did they do the flash 18-033-07 that has been out for about two weeks? If it is idling rough, misfires, blows black smoke you should shut it off for 30 seconds and restart it. If you don't, it will soot much faster and plug the PF. The flash corrects it. Your dealer should also know there are two parts of the flash. The first is downloading the "Bootloader" flash, then they have to blow out the files and download the actual flash. There is also a new flash coming, hopefully next week. It should have some tweaks to the regeneration process.

Why do I have a feeling that the market for used 2007. 5 CTD in the near future will be as lucritive as the used Ford 2003/2004 Powerstroke used truck market?

I just had another preminition, I predict that the used CTD market price for 2003 - 2006 trucks just jumped 50% or more.

Hopefully the reflash will fix the problem. It is a great truck and the 68rfe alone makes me want one. Of course they haven't satisfied me yet on the down shift points in tow/haul mode on my 06.

Then again I have been working with techs for a week just trying to get a simple Aircard to work right. It must have the same problem the CTD has. If I don't load it down , it shuts off!

Yea, I too get the feeling that there is a monster lurking under the water, soon to show itself. I would soon be rid of a truck that I had to do the hokey pokey just to get it to run. Do this, do that, stand on your head, say beetlejuice 3 times, pray and hopefully you can run another 100 miles! I feel bad for anyone with DPF problems, Wouldn't have the patience for it.
