Sorry, another Smarty Question!

As the Sheriff and DPS officers have been nice enough to point out, my bone stock 325/610 engine makes plenty of power. Cant afford license & insurance trouble & my extended warranty is still intact. Maybe someday I'll uncork it!

I think it is a matter of personal preference. Some people believe that any modification to your truck is sacrilege and you will be forever scorned. Those same people believe your resale value and the life of your truck will be reduced drastically, which may or may not be true depending on many other circumstances. Other people believe that it is your truck and you can do with it what you please and they realize they are responsible for any repair of the vehicle and in fact the life of the power train may be shortened. Bottom line--do what you want and can or can not afford, keeping in mind how your going to use your truck. IMHO

I thought about not "chipping" the 2007 5. 9 Mega/DRW/Auto/SLT i have now but a tweek here and there really wakes this truck up more(Smarty JR) setting #2/torque 50%,CFM intake+airbox mods-----i like it. With the amount i drive every year(12,000 miles)i"m not to concerned about wearing out this ride-----even have my 01(see sig) still to fall back on if need as it sits in the garage mostly(33,000miles to date---i drive a company vehicle too all day). Its your choice if you can afford it do what you like. I will probable add a few more goodies to the newer truck(DTT transmission/cosmetic stuff etc) but won't go crazy like i did with the first one. Not on my new truck but my old 97 when I used to pull a 3 car trailer I would get passed by all the ford guys and other CTD's pulling the same trailers and they would blow by me day by day, I just kept chugging along and before long I would pass them while they were over heated or destoyed a transmission.

No it wasn't the fastest truck, but in a way it was, I never broke down.

when I went up mountains I took my time and let the truck tell me what to do, if it wasn't happy I slowed her down a bit, it worked for me.

Reasonable happy with the 06. Spent lots of money on my old 12v, but haven't done that to the 06 yet. Maybe in the future, maybe not. Was never worried about warranties or resale value. But, it runs great stock, and I'm not sledpulling with it like the 95. Sort of on the wagon. Afraid my 06 would end up like Jim's 3rd Gen!

I know that I've shortened the life of my motor some what with my mods but 40k a year towing and driving in crappy traffic i love having the powere to move when need be. I used my bro-in-laws dura snack to pull my trailer and it was tough to drive like you need to when dealing with the traffic i see. Alot of the other people on the road i deal with do not give a truck let a lone a truck with a trailer a break and sometimes it nice to have the power to move when need be and just pull away from stupid people. . and at the end of the day when i can just stand on it... its the best stress relief that i can get with my clothes on.

I was okay with the 325/600, but the "mush" created by the torque management and 48RE drove me crazy, especially when towing! What good is 325hp when you can't get it moving from a stop? Plus the Bullydog PMT gave me the gauges I didn't have also.

Just put a torque converter and valve body in it. You'll be amazed at the difference. It's like a whole new truck.

As I look around the site I see that most everyone has done some kind of Chip for power. Im not knocking it I was just wondering if Im the only one that is happy with the 325/600 that cummins gave me. :)and then I post on the wrong section

Stock power is fine, stock EGT's were what scared me... So I run the Smarty Jr on SW1, just timing no additional fuel.

I'm running a Smarty on sw#1,approx. 30+ hp and 60# tq. It enables my truck to carry 2000# around all the time and accelerate like a stocker. That's all I use it for. Upon removal of Marco's invention the vehicle reverts to a dog with my load.

SW1 on the SR and JR is about the same. . My dyno sheets show that the hp gain is up to 55 from 1800-2400 (probably lower, but its hard to spool that fast on a dyno) and tq is up to about 90 ft/lbs in that range. Max power is barely affected with timing only. . Stock I dyno'd 284/519, SJR SW1 296/610. The timing setting I run everyday is 290/590. From about 2700-3200 the power curve is very close to stock (timing was probably maxed out from the factory in that range). But at the start of the dyno (1600ish) there is already a good gap between stock and SW1. .

I was "chipped" for a long time but after transmission and a rear diff failure the chip is gone, removed, outta there. I cannot say for sure that the extra power was the cause but I think it may have contributed to the failures. One gets used to the power and you really don't realize how much extra there is until it is gone. The engine oil is staying a lot cleaner now as well. I have towed many miles, a lot at nearly rated load. I feel that this is where the damage will occur. I really miss the extra ponies especially when towing but for now $$$$ and gray hair prevail. I am stock.

Those "chips" put a little twist in my drive shaft... wait, maybe that was my fault!
