I am currently using Rotella T and I am thinking of switching to Amsoil this weekend when doing my oil change does anyone have any good or bad thoughts about this?

I have been using amsoil end to end in my truck for over 180k now with zero problems. I run the 15-40 in the warm months and the 5-30 in the cold months. There are many good dino oils out there just depends on what you like I guess.

It is personal preference. I have used rotella in mine for the 488,000 miles I have had it with no problems... used the dreaded Wix oil filter too! Just change it at the intervals specified and you will have no problems. Save you money.

I just switched to Rotella T as Mobil Delvac 1 was too hard to find. Dumped the Rotella after 15K miles and it looked fine. The cost savings over Delvac was a plus too.

I would stick with what you've been using.

Some guys love, some hate it. Personally, I don't have anything that doesn't have Amsoil in it. Its even in my lawn mower. I really believe its some of the best stuff available.

For you, 15W-40 AME will work just fine, and will be good for 15K changes. Works put pretty good, you do your oil, oil filter and fuel filter all at once. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Thanks for the positive outlook I have been wanting to change and the price of the oil is not what I'm worried about but at 92k I want my baby to last a long while and I have heard that AMSOIL is the way to go.

hey thanks yea I know it's a little bit more $ but it's worth it. I will go for this and change all this weekend thanks for the help.

The TDR has documented 3 million mile trucks in the times I have had my subscription. One commonality among them was the use of Shell rottela T 15W-40. I think it is the best bet. Cheaper than synthetic and good enough to do the job. Spend that extra money keeping the rest of the truck together for that million mile mark and beyond.

I've been using Rotella and Fram filters for eighteen years with no problems, if you wish to throw your money away, be my guest.

I also have Amsoil front to back in my truck. My last oil change (with an Amsoil by pass filter) was 21k miles( that's 7-3000mile changes do your own math) . Oil samples every 5k to back it up. Change my Fleetgaurd full flow filter every 5 k and by pass every 10k. I wouldnt use it if u are not planning on extended drain cycles, it is too expensive to dump every 3k miles, LOL.

It is kind of a personal choice though (thats why there have been Oil Wars here in the past). Bottom line is use what u are comfortable using based on what u are looking for in the oil performance.

BTW I run 15-40 year round with out problem.

Hope this helps

I run Amsoil because I just don't enjoy changing oil and I am confident I am safe running extended drain intervals with Amsoil. If you don't mind doing the work stay with the cheap stuff. If you want to run longer drain cycles then there is nothing finer than Amsoil. In my opinion the cost is a wash. Longer intervals with more expensive oil or shorter intervals with less expensive oil. It think it is all up to personal preference.

I personally have it in everything that runs at my place, which includes 3 automobiles, 4 ATVs, tractor, commercial mower, trimmers, push mowers, power washer, etc... They are all very very happy engines!!!

For people who live in a cold climate, I am a strong believer in using synthetic oil. Your engine cranks over much faster and once the oil pressure builds a lot faster. I run 15w-40 synthetic all year long and my truck always fires right up. When I ran dino oil, the truck cranked real slow and took a while to build oil pressure.

As far as cost goes, I believe that it makes more sense to run synthetic. You only have to do approximately 1/3 as many oil changes which makes the monetary cost come out to be approximately equal. However, that doesn't factor the cost of your time spent crawling around under the truck and getting covered in oil. Not to mention most people don't stock oil so they have to drive($$) to the store 3 times as often to get oil.

I think that it makes sense to run it but I understand that there are a lot of people out there who are more comfortable with dino oil.

I have used the Amsoil products in everything I own, since 1980, including three CTD trucks. A little more costly than regular oils, but will protect much better in the event one loses a serpentine belt, or coolant. I have seen several cases where these have happened, and there was no damage to the engines. One that I know of that ran 4 miles, with NO COOLANT at all, as a hose broke, and the operator had NO PLACE to pull the truck and trailer off the road! Also seen one that had a oil filter rupture ,and lost ALL the oil! He installed a new filter, and two quarts of oil, (THAT'S ALL HE HAD IN HIS POSESSION) then drove the truck for 35 miles before he could get to a service station! NO DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE! HE is still driving the same truck, and that was ten years ago!

I'll pay a little more any day for more protection!

i have used amsoil on and off depending on the value of the engine since the 70's. the more it costs to replace an engine, the more likely i will put amsoil in it.

also, if your engine burns more than 1 qt per 1000 miles, you would probably be better with rotella.

and if you accidentally go 9000 miles before changing your filter (yup i did it), you won't have to worry about engine damage with amsoil. the recommended change intervals are very conservative.

Amsoil

I do believe that amsoil is the best, and the price shows that. If you are someone who does not like to spend money then I would suggest rotella synthetic. With AMSOIL you can extend your oil changes with periodic oil analysis. If you go with AMSOIL and you are going to extend your oil changes I would recomend changing the oil filter more frequently. There are also alot of good dyno oils out there but then your back to more frequent oil changes. I think in the long run the amount you spend more than pays for it self by extened oil changes. You can get a free oil analysis kit from

www.Blackstone-Labs.com. Good Luck

Thanks this does help and I changed all my oil over and I don't care what people say about the cost I think it is much better and I would rather run synthetic in my vehicles any day of the week.
