Still no thoughts on 3rd gen mounting locations?? I did get mine installed but not sure if it's a permanent home yet but in the meantime it is filtering the oil for me!

I mounted my bracket to the passenger side battery tray, toward the firewall. There's plenty of room at that location. I am installing this weekend, and will take some pics of that install (probably make a separate post about it in the 3rd gen forum).

Thanx, I saw I could fit it on there but couldn't find the room to pull the filter apart to service it. Pic's would be great as I'm not sure I like where I have it now.

Dunno about specific room in a 3rd generation truck - but follow this pointer and check the Frantz bypass section for the way I did mine.

Thanx Gary, that was the general idea I was/am trying to follow. On the 3rd gen the battery and air filter are swapped. If I come off the battery tray towards the engine it is right next to the turbo / exhaust and I plan on putting a jake brake on. Didn;t want to mess that up not knowing how much spce it needs. I'll look at some other 3rd gen pics when posted. Thanx for all the help!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I did my first TP replacement today on my new Frantz - I replaced after 500 miles since I had 4k on my oil.

I have to admit, I was astounded how clean the swap was. I had a bunch of towels spread around ready to catch any slop and when I lifted the canister off not a single drop spilled. The canister and used roll comes off and virtually every bit of the oil in the filter is trapped in the TP.

Gary wasn't exaggerating the tiniest bit when he said TP changes are no-mess. Sorry I didn't trust you, Gary! I just never would have imagined there really would be no spillage.

Oh, and I am returning filtered oil to the filler cap.

Great! Installed my filter on oil (Rotella) that had 3500 miles on it. Oil was quite dark and appeared to have begun to thicken just a bit. After just 100 miles, the oil was noticeably cleaner. After 500 miles, the oil's color looked more like new than oil with 4k miles on it, and its viscosity seemed to have thinned back to what it was when new. It was time for me to swap to Amsoil, so I drained the Rotella and swapped the TP. My TP element with 500 miles on it was BLACK - obviously it had been doing some serious cleaning.

Can I simply swap the canister to use with my Amsoil bypass ? I like this system but will it just spin on . I probably missed that part ?

Its in

I got hit in the head, required 6 stiches, so I am at home. Got bored and did it. Tired of sitting around the house, so I went outside and installed the Frantz. Gary, my setup is a hair from being identical to yours. The truck is running outside as I type this. I will take it for a short spin to let the oil get up to temp and I will come home check the oil level and call it a day.

Many thanks to Gary, Chipstien, Forrest, and all else who helped and got this thing going.

The TDR, my, my, my ;)

Has anyone thought of or installed the clamp on finned cooler to thier Frantz Filter? I pulled the oil fill cap to show someone the flow after driving the truck and it do get toasty warm!

Pretty pathetic... ... I still have yet to install mine. Just can't seem to get the energy. :(

Come on Chip. You can do it. I did mine with a bad back. The hardest part is the mounting bracket ( deciding where to mount it and how to do it). The rest is pretty much a piece of cake.

Well, just finished it up. :) I had already installed one on my dads Ford V8 so this was #2. Ended up using a piece of 4inch angle and bolted the bracket to that and slid it under the battery. At some point I will make a new bracket but at least now it is in operational order.

Got home 1/2 hour ago from installing mine after work. Went pretty good. Same points as what Jim said about the mounting bracket and all.

I just found this thread and didn't read through all of the posts, but I did a great deal of research on TP and cellulose bypass filters. The TP filters worked just as well and were far cheaper. However, do not install these on a new truck. The engine needs a far amount of carbon as an abrasive to help the engine break in. When these were placed on new engines, they took never broke in and had excessive oil consumption. Its best to use a mineral oil for break in period and after oil consumption and fuel milage stabilize, then switch to a semi or full synthetic with the filter.

I did mine last week, put about 400 miles on it, the oil already had about 3k on it so,,,,, should it be cleaner? I was expecting it to clean up nicely. I wonder if someone stole the tp out of it while I was admiring it sitting on the kitchen table, it was only there a couple of weeks, and we did get kind of low during that time. Gary how much oil is returned while the engine is running? Mine puts out quite a stream.

Thanks for the GP chipstein.

CFAR

I read where Frantz says to change the first TP at 500 miles after that change 2500/3000 miles.

I got 15 miles on my first TP roll. :D

Gary, you DA Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

I would expect noticeably cleaner oil in 400 miles, unless your oil was extremely dirty or you are fueling so heavily the filter can't catch up. As to the volume of oil while idling, mine will put out less than a 1/4 inch stream with decent but not excessive flow - sorta hard to describe, and I have never actually measured output into a container...

I find that my oil cleans up much faster on longer freeway travel than on short in-town driving - I now have well over 3000 miles on my oil, and it is as clean as when first installed...
