Another Classic I6 vs V8 Debate

If diesel V8's were the best design, road tractors, construction equipment, farm equipment,etc. , etc. would use them extensively, however, they do not. So that FACT speaks for itself.

How in the world anyone can look at the different connecting rods for these 3 engines and still decide that the V8s are better, is absolutely beyond my ability to understand.



How long now have people on this site been begging DC to make a true 4-door? I just don't think they're listening. Or, if they are, there's some problem with doing so that we don't know about.

There is no problem with the true four door. Its coming in 05 or 05. 5. And All i can say is V-8 DIESELS SUCK... These trucks are made to pull an I-6 has the most power down low. V-8's have power in the upper rpm's. And why are they even debating about our engines when there new engines cant stay running, have oil spots all over there driveways, Have fuel in there crankcases, Have there pilot injection turned off so the engine can last about 1/2 as long...



Ford guys... When your engines actually run right and can actually challenge a cummins. . (cough cough. . never) then start talking... But untill then deal with it I-6 CUMMINS #1. . thats the bottom line

the way i see it, we all like to have justification that we bought the right vehicle. when you spend 30k+ on a vehicle and then add thousands in mods, you really need to have a support group that tells you that you are doing the right thing!!



as far as the fords go, i worked on a '99 F550 dump with the 7. 3 in it yesterday. i work part time for the gentleman that owns it. he is selling it and wanted me to give it a quick check. it has 60,000 miles on it and it still drives like new. power is adequate and brakes and steering are still great. it is a nice truck. HOWEVER, dodge doesnt make 550 class machines for dump bodies, so what alternative does he have??? he also has a 2000 F550. that one is even nicer.



i wouldnt be ashamed to own it, but it would not be my first choice if DC put a cummins in that size class.



for me the cummins is the logical choice for our size trucks and joined the TDR because all of us support that opinion. personnally i just dont like the sound of the V8

I've always said "I'm loyal to nothing but logic"...



out of the 30-40 cars I've owned, maybe 5 have been non-ford... am I a "ford guy"? no... I've just always had good luck with them, and once you get to the point where you can put one together from top to bottom in a couple hours with all the spare parts in the garage, it just doesn't make sense to go against the grain you've built for yourself...



but when I started getting diesel fever I stepped back and did my research and talked to people who'd owned both (GM was never an option... I'm not a Ford guy, but I hate GM for the most part... my entire family has had them since I was a kid, and I've never really had a good experience with a GM product. that and the words "GM" and "diesel" don't belong anywhere on the same PAGE)



anyhow, after doing my research and looking at the 18 wheelers and seeing how many miles they rack up, I came to the conclusion that the Cummins I6 was the superior design...



I hear lots of Ford guys make the excuse that even if the Cummins is "slightly" better that they wouldn't be caught dead in a Dodge. I don't know why... my only experience with Dodge has been the two 3/4 ton CTD's I've owned, but I've been pleased with them thus far.



Would I prefer to have the 5. 9B in a Ford? YES!!!



Would I get anywhere NEAR a V8 diesel? NO!!!!!!
