I'll confuse things a bit more for you Marco. :-laf 2005 stock injectors stock cp3. I have been running just the Smarty for a few weeks with the latest 202 software and it worked fine with or without timing. I put my TST back on yesterday for boost fooling and put the Smarty to level 4 90hp without timing. With the TST on, any level, I get timing rattle from about 1900-2200 rpms  , never did this before. I backed the Smarty down to level 2 and still get timing rattle with the TST on. Bumped the Smarty back up to level 7, TST off, no timing rattle. Could fuel quality have anything to do with the timing rattle? Kind of like low octane gas in a high compression gas motor?

I am running the smarty on level 9 with smarty software two and tst on 2/2 and the truck runs very smooth and lots of power. I now need to trade in my sps 62 for a silverbullet once again.

Marco / Bob W.

I have posted in the past about my truck not liking the TST/Smarty stack. (any combination of the two would cause my truck to miss at WOT). I just received my TST back from having it upgraded, and as Bob knows I downloaded the new software to my Smarty, choosing the "stock tq mngmt" program.

I am not sure which of the two changed the outcome, but I have to tell you, no more missing or stumbling, engine sounds and runs great! I have tried several different settings and all work fine, at the moment I am running the TST 03 twins program on 5/3, EZ 2, Smarty SW4 w/stk tq mngmt. Driveability is very predictable, no more touchy throttle, shifts perfectly and my truck is once more a BLAST to drive. And I do mean BLAST, this thing runs like a scalded dog :D :D :D . Bob, thank you for helping me download the new softwares, Jess.

I had my TST reflashed back on the 15th, while towing with Smarty on SW#2 software version 2. and with the TST on 2x2.

this offered the best usable towing power and the lowest egts. but anything over 15 psi boost would rattle and knock like crazy.

with the TST off the noise would go away but egts would go way high.

on the down side milage at these settings sucked!

I just got back fro a 6000 mile trip towing 10000lbs + and tried many settings along the way.

Rick

I have not done any towing whatsoever with this stack so I am curious as to how it will behave when I do. The truck by itself is great!

Towing w/SMARTY

I've had my best towing experience with the SMARTY by itself. I've towed a lot of times with the SMARTY on 7 and I by-pass on my TST so it's off and that gives me the best towing and lowest EGTs. I tried more moderate SMARTY on 3 and TST '05 Twins on 3/2 and the SMARTY by itself is a better tow by far. :-laf

Marco has still been giving me different software to d/l and load up to try and get it to work. Still working out the bugs. I will say this. Yesterday for fun I loaded the original software that the Smarty came with. I wanted my buddy to experience the TM so maybe he's get one for his 04. 5. I loaded #8 130hp/no timing. My EZ is still plugged in on level 2. WAY more driveable with the EZ in the mix compared to the Smarty that high alone. I like it. No real rattle. Added TST 1/0 and get rattle at the higher RPM range. But with a little pressure it realy clears up the rattling, gives me power all the way the power band and has less smoke. Can't wait to figure all this rattling out and be able to turn the TST up. Man, she's going to be a rocket.

OK. As of 10/5

Got a beta program from Marco based off of the Mild TM. I think we got it. I'm able to run my TST up with no rattling/pinging. I love it. Honestly, seat of the pants tells me, it pulls as hard as my buddies Lamborghini Gallardo. Seriously. It's a rocket once you're able to run the TST with the Smarty. And to think, I've only programmed #4 (90hp no timing). Have I mentioned I love it. LOL

Can't wait to get the twins in on Monday to keep this thing cool. Two thumbs WAY up!

If everything checks out, will Marco make this availible for everyone? My truck isn't liking the TST/Smarty stack either. So in the mean time, it's Smarty Level 9! :D

Here's my Smarty experience. 2005 with G56 manual, 90hp DDP honed injectors, TST, stock turbo, stock clutch, 5" dual exhaust, cold air intake and K&N, no Rokktec sendor. I use a ball&spring manual boost controller and set the stock turbo to 42psi. I dynoed 421whp 768wtq with the 90hp inj and TST on 3x1 (no Smarty at that time). Since then I put the Smarty (with the old smokey software) on #3 and TST on 1x1. It runs great, no rattle, smokes when first going but cleans up real nice under boost, about the same power as TST on 3x1 w/o Smarty.

I now have it set to Smarty #5 (90hp w/timing), TST on 1x1. It runs very strong, only rattles a slight bit around 2000rpm, pulls good up to 3400rpm, only smokes at low boost, cleans up well at 40psi. It's easily stronger than when I dynoed 421whp on just TST 3x1 and 90hp injectors. I'll hit a dyno this month sometime.

I haven't tried the Smarty any higher than 90hp w/timing or the TST higher than 1x1 because I don't want to slip the stock clutch. It's still holding fine for now. I have 22,000 miles on the truck.

Matt,

So if things go well with the beta program who will it be for? Meaning was it the TST/Smarty stack, the injectors, the SO, or a combination of all?

I have stacked the TST and Smarty and I do get a rattle, but it does not seem as bad as what you describe. I just upgraded my clutch and sent the TST to be reflashed and I want to be ready when the TST arrives.

Avi-

I'm not quite sure. I know he sent me some specific stuff just for my truck but I was getting an error while loading. I think he said this particular one was loaded with all years. (Bob might know?) Not sure about SO, Injectors, TST/Smarty stack or not. He did mention that the program that he had me try reduced timing way back. Seems to work great for me. I'm sure Marco will get on here sometime tomorrow and fill us all in. We've been PM'ing each other daily, with him sending me different stuff to try. Talk about great customer service. Imagine if some of us were having issues like this with anyone else. We'd get the run around and they wouldn't do anything about it. To deal direct with the maker and have him working on making your specific truck right is worth every penny plus some. I honestly don't think I've ever experienced customer service like this. Thanks Marco!

That is great about the reduced timing. I am upgradeing my TST so that I can control the timing on that end as well. My truck is noisey enough with the Dual Disk Clutch, no muffler, and the AFE. I don't need to add timing rattle to the mix.

Avi

I should add that my TST software is the old old program from early '03, the one people complained about being too aggressive. Combine that with the old smokey Smarty software and 90hp inj and my truck runs great. :D

Gang,

So what's been going on "behind the scene"?

I've TRIED to send driverno8 updates for his Smarty for almost a week but he's a Mac guy, we had to send the updates to his neighbor, full mail boxes, tall update files... you get the picture. :-laf

At the end I've done a beta software based upon version two, the one with the mild TM. It's ready for all 03 to 05 trucks. I've "published" it on our web site and removed the link but the beta thinghy is there. If anybody else wants to give it a try, ask and you will receive. ;)

The "rattle" appeard to be timing related. I ended up taking some timing away in the low to middle RPM/Load range. For the middle to top end the timing has remained almost unchanged. I mean to say, the EGT reduction provided by the softwares that are in the customers hands thus far should still be there.

Altough it works fine for driverno8, in my mind it's too soon to raise the flag and shout victory. More tests need to be done... I've asked him to test as much as possible to him. I'm sure he'll share his findings with US.

Time will tell but so far it looks promising.

Hey Matt, did I say thanks for your patience? ;)

Marco
