Heads flying off my axe and sledgehammers!

One sick toy

Being in the industry I suggest AVG anti-virus & firewall and spysweeper for anti-spyware. There are other decent packages out there but those are what I've found to work the best. I can also say that you absolutely DO NOT want to run Norton. I have made a lot of money removing Norton anti-virus packages from peoples PC's the last couple years. In one case I found 200 viruses and 2000 pieces of spyware on a persons PC that had a current and updated copy of Norton on it.

Being in the industry as well, I can tell you that PCCillin is not a very good product. We use the enterprise version of OfficeScan and I had been a McAfee user for several years. OfficeScan, in my humble opinion, is light years ahead of McAfee, Symantec/Norton, and 100% better than even PCCillin. I was also a user of Zone Alarm for several years. When I ran Zone Alarm I ran nothing else and had zero spyware or viruses get through. I can tell you that I have been on the receiving end of AVG and as a support person I don't really care for it, but for my home use I would try it on a computer I didn't rely on every day and wouldn't have a problem rebuilding on a whim. Ad-Aware isn't as good as it used to be.

I have PC Cillin now. It is many time better than the NAV I had on the last 'puter. I finally gave up on NAV and went with just Spysweeper. That was better.

PCCillin lets some stuff thru that I can't seem to get rid of. Nothing malicious so far...

Supposedly Embarq's own system is pretty good. I'd have to ditch the Trend to try it and I don't know if it's worth it.

I went to Zone Alarm to install the free firewall as my PC Cillin was expiring...

It also installs a 15 day free trail of there full suite, I'm on the 5th of this and so far so good... ... ... ... .

I'm not an IT guy but I use AVG anitvirus from Grisoft on all of my own computers. Had a bad experience with Norton and I will never use it again.

I have been running Avast (the free version) for about 6 months, ever since I got several virus and trojans and had to reload software. Well three days ago Avast warns me that i have a trojan. I go and look, sure enough. Every time I put it in the chest it comes back... crap. Ran Avast at boot up, found some more trojans and virus's. Ran a online scan from PandaScan. . killed some but missed others. Got ****** and ran CCleaner (empties all temp files, all cache folders, cookies and bunches of other crap). Then I ran scans again... . all gone except for the trojan. Went online to Avast, and found there forums. Posted up my problem. Within 24 hrs someone had helped me get rid of all traces of the trojan (with the help of two programs that do some magical stuff) and told me how it got into the system..... (an old version of Java he suspected). New java installed and bugs are gone. Avast may not have caught it coming in but the help on there forums sold me. I may even buy the retail version.

That being said I have run AVG's 30 day trial and it works good.
