Currently have a 2019 Power Wagon and 2018 3500 SRW, Aisin, 8 foot bed. Thinking of downsizing to one vehicle and am looking at a 2023 Mega Cab 2500, Cummins, etc. Wondering if anyone is aware of any 2023 issues? And any thoughts on going to a 6'4 bed and 2500. Don't tow often, but when I do, it's usually 12k plus. Thanks for any ideas.

From what I've read, 2022 has some engine issues. While I don't see many folks on here complaining, there are other places that folks go now a days. Not sure on the 2023 model year though.

I'm itching to see what Stellantis' plan is with a 10 speed transmission. Though I certainly wouldn't want to be a guinea pig.

While I like the current RAM Heavy Duty models in some regards, I am also turned off by some deficiencies, one of them being the old 68RFE that is included in the 2500. It was one of the deal breakers for me. Even after my EcoD purchase, I occasionally wonder, but then I draw back, nope I'm happy with what I got. If the EcoD didn't exist or I couldn't find what I was looking for, then a 2500/3500 would've been my only option.

Curious to see what other folks have to say.

Good points. Thanks. My 2018 only has 36,000 miles and the Power Wagon is at 45,000 so not like they're worn out. I really like the 8 speed transmission in the Power Wagon and it's my daily driver. Will get around 17 mpg. highway at 70-75 with it. Both are paid for so no real reason to sell, just a bit tired of maintaining 2 vehicles with 2 registrations and 2 insurance coverages. Will wait for additional thoughts.

If it makes you feel any better, I keep 3 vehicles on the road, fully insured, inspected, etc. 2020 RAM EcoD, 2007 F150 Reg cab 8' bed, and a 2000 Dakota Reg cab 6' bed.

My plans are to private party sell the F150 in the coming years as I'm not using it as much as it's worth being insured and tagged in NY. No way would I trade it, because I don't think I'd get the value. No rust, no damages, garage kept, well maintained, 1 owner, and only 60k on the clock. Great work truck.

The Dakota on the other hand was a custom ordered truck that my dad bought, with the 4.7l V8, 5 speed NV3500, with a 3.91 LS rear end all in a regular cab. We put a Flowmaster dual exhaust on it, and it sounds real good. To me it's a practical version of a Mustang. Fun to drive and actually useful!

It's nice having all these vehicles, but to be honest, the insurance is what kills me. Maintenance, well, I can do all that except for computerized alignments.

Not sure what I'm going to do in 5-7 years from now with the EcoD, if I'll sell it/trade it, keep it... not sure yet. I'll see if it's a winner winner chicken dinner of a truck. I just don't want to be in the predicament I was earlier this year where my trade was worthless and it wound up being a safety hazard out on the road. Gotta roll the dice and keep an eye on it if you know what I mean.

Not a 2023 but my 2022 has been trouble free so far 17 k miles 2 years old in November. Grid heater recall ( just disconnected it ) tailgate pins recall it’s off camper is on now not an issue for me. Just came back from a 7 day 1250 mile road trip over to northern Yukon rough roads drove lots of dirt road 200 miles 85-90 weather hills and grades hauling 3000 lbs camper preformed great no issues. New air filter laying on work bench I’m sure it needs one. Did I say dust

'22 2500's left overs going for 20% off around here. Dealer has 6 of them, he texted me to see of I would bite, unfortunately my needs for the company don't need that much truck. But the price is very tempting.

But here is the list off AllData for TSB, of course TSB is not really that broad of a stroke, it can be very narrow unit numbers.

Good luck on your search, I've been enjoying my '22 Mega Cab. Would order one up again, still exactly what I wanted.

Thanks Tim. Always helpful. If I go to the 2500, I lose the Asian and HD engine which I have reservations about doing. But the 2500 rides much better than the 3500.

Get yourself a 3500 with auto-level. My truck rides better than any other HD truck I’ve ridden in and handles weight better than any other OEM suspension. The steel spring 2500’s ride awful compared to the auto-level 3500’s.

The biggest complaint I’ve heard about 2023’s is the removal of options that were standard in 22, such as fender flares on a Laramie. The camera systems are also impossible to buy after the sale and some trims can’t even order them. To get the 350° and DRVM camera you have to go to a Longhorn or higher, unlike in 22. The trailer mounted DRVM camera isn’t available for sale, so if the truck doesn’t come with one then you are currently SOL… that should change in the future but it’s how it is right now.

Cab choice is personal preference. To me the MC lost its luster when the cab got bigger in 2010. Since you can’t get a MC with a 8’ bed I personally wouldn’t even consider one.

I did notice that on the fender flares. I'm ignorant-what is a DRVM camera? Since we sold our Montana property, we don't put on the miles as before and don't really need the long bed anymore either.

Digital Rear View Mirror

When I was considering upgrading to a 22 the main improvements I wanted were the DRVM and the 360° camera. I even delayed my order to wait for those options, the 18 was such a great truck that I didn’t want to upgrade if I wasn’t getting some distinct improvements.

Aah, ok. Not something high on my list of priorities though. Right now, the dealer and I are about $3000 apart so we'll see.

Well, dealer couldn't refuse my offer. Taking both my trucks and cutting me a check for the value above their truck! Now need to see about Maxcare! Fwiw, they came down about 12% on a 2023.

12% off MSRP is pretty darn good, and pretty close to what I was able to swing on my 22.

Did you buy one off the lot? Or order one?

Bought it off the lot but I think it’s been there for a bit. They had an identically equipped one and the sticker was nearly $1000 higher. The difference was in the base price on the window sticker.

2023's are getting old on the lots, so they are trying to push them out without cutting too much of a loss. Sounds like you are getting a decent deal.

Yeah, I’m satisfied. I thought I made them an offer they would refuse but they surprised me! We still have a 2020 3500 with a Hemi if I need a speed fix! Lol

You'll like it, trust me. Just pull the trigger, sign the paperwork and drive off into the sunset with that truck.
