I have a 2006 2500 Megacab. 82,000 miles. #2 injector resistance is bad, 1 ohm. Been getting the codes for that injector and unknow voltage for that bank. I pulled the cover and tested the leads to the gasket while disconnected. No issues, no resistance. Injector not connected is 1 ohm the rest are .5 ohm. Clearing codes gets it running again for a bit. I'm not really driving it in this condition.

I have received 1 quote at about $2500 for 1 injector, Tube, high pressure line, Upper/Lower Valve cover gasket (electronic one), grid heater gaskets and valve adjustment. I realize diesels are expensive but prices for parts are at MSRP for this shop. Example: The 2 valve cover gaskets are $800 and $75. Dealer Gasket is $450 to $500. This shop will not do any less that what is quoted for the job to be guaranteed. I researched how to do this, it does not appear too hard but would prefer a professional or someone that has done this since I am towing for a few high schools several hundred miles in March and April and can't afford to be stuck on the side of the road with all their gear.

Would prefer a guru that helps TDR members or decent shops in the Orange County CA.. Westminster, Huntington Beach, Anaheim.

Thank you,
Ramon

It isn't to hard of a job for someone that has some skills.

Depending on what you plan to do I can cost more or less.

If you plan like only replace one injector you can also skip all the additional parts you listed, you don't need them at all, the injector is all you need, everything else can be re-used no problem.

I say this because usually injectors are replaced as a set of six, matching, not only one.

And even then, myself I solely replaced the 6 injectors and nothing else, that was 10 years ago and truck still runs strong doubled it's milage since.

It is really a pretty basic job, especially being number two cylinder, it is easy to access. You only need a couple of wrenches, and an inch pound and 3/8" foot lb torque wrench. I'll have to try and find the link to my injector change write up. If you have done some basic repairs there is no reason you can't do it yourself.
Genos Garage has the valve cover/wiring gasket for $199. You only need the valve cover gasket $10 in addition to the wiring gasket. Crossover tube is $60, copper sealing washer, and an injector that Genos does not carry. Install is a couple hour job taking your time. At that mileage you probably don't have to adjust the valves, just the one cylinder you are working on.

Want to thank you both for replying. I had watched a video early on and it did not seem to hard. Been wrenching for better part of 50 years and just was not quite sure. The high cost and the help from you both have help me decided to just do it. I've rebuilt other types of engines before and do most of all my repairs and your excellent write up Sag2 is perfect and makes it seem even easier. I spoke with Genos a few weeks ago and they said their reman injectors are pretty good and they have never had an issue. I believe he said the reman has 3 years warranty and new 2 years. Also, I have a harbor freight inch pound torque wrench so not quite sure that is the best to use here. I have a decent Ft pound torque wrench. Any suggestions here on injector (new or reman) and TQ wrench?

I realize you usually change these in a set but for now, I am just going to do the one and see how she runs. Maybe I do the rest when I retire later this year. Its really been a great truck, The only real repair I have ever had is the A/C just went out last year after 17 years. An axle seal and HVAC blend door under warranty but that was early on. Regular maintenance has been performed on everything I would say 1/2 the 80k miles were towing our 5th wheel RV (no gone) and more recently 16ft Utility trailers. I really need to drive it more which I plan to do.

Thank you again,
Ramon

Also, just realized I have both issues 51 and 52. I have TDR from 2004 to 2015. Another bonus. I have a littler more reading to do, online and in paper. :D

A HF inch lb is good enough for the injector install, but do not use it on the injector electrical nuts. Use a 1/4" ratchet with a couple of fingers. They just need to be snug. Most will say you need BBI, but I would trust Genos, especially if you are replacing just one.

I don't see Rail injectors at Genos.

But anyway, if changing only one get a factory new Bosch from a trusted source, that should do the job.

And like said, all you need is the injector, nothing else needs to be mandatory changed here. No seals, no gaskets, no nonsense.

Stay away from anything cheap, no matter new or reman, it won't work.

Got it on the new Bosch. I think it was $70 more than reman, not too bad. Yes, I don't see them listed either for 06 at Genos. I told him what I had and he gave me prices. I'll call again on Monday and place an order. And I did what you said on the injector wire nuts. Snug by hand when I checked the injector resistance. What I don't remember seeing was a spring on the valve cover gasket that some suggest might be a ground. Was that for 03 to 04/05?

Just want to say thank for al the help on this. I replaced #2 injector today. Came all apart in about 30 minutes. Took time cleaning and going over all torques. Was actually pretty easy. Only snafu was Genos sent me the wrong feeder tube. It was a little larger diameter than what I had in mine and did not have the 2 check balls to place it, had a different positioning area so I cleaned and reused my feeder tube. Runs great so far. Here is the part they sent for my 06.

Yes, you are right, Geno's said they replaced those like 10 years ago so it is not really new to them, just new to me. They let me return it for now. If I have any more injector issues, I will probably change the rest of them and then all 6 of these tubes.
