Any reason why diesel costs more than gas?

Do I have to go to a dealer????

eye candy

Heating season is over, why are the diesel prices not coming down?

Anyone know the answer? Speedway won't discuss prices, Shell didn't know and Exxon sent me to a website that didn't really tell me anything more than I already know.

Taxes are one reason. There is (at least the last time I checked) $0. 24 of federal tax on fuel plus state tax (which happens to be an additional $0. 24 in PA). This results in a $0. 42 in additional tax on the fuel on top of all the other taxes. This could be one reason.

I am sure there are many more reasons than this, hopfully someone with better ideas will chime in.

We are exporting diesel to Europe to offset the price of regular gas since the European's use more diesel than we do. That's what i have seen in a few articles now.

Fuel manager at the local CO-OP told me a few weeks ago it's because every refinery in the nation has to shut down for 6 weeks at some point this year to retool for ULSD. It's causing short supply, raising the price. Sounded plausible to me.

Pure soy well over 3 bucks a gallon. Not sure how bio is gonna save us any.

Making your own bio would be nice if it could be done efficiently. Burning used motor oil helps if you have a steady clean supply. Nice thing about home brew bio is NO TAXES. But the cost of supplies and energy to make the stuff may break even.

The selling diesel over to europe does not make any sence what so ever. We all pay when diesel goes up. Just about all products require fuel oil. Wether its for shipping or for manufacturing.

If they are selling diesel over seas. I think its a strategy in are government to prevent deflation or some other economical reason?

The US is just taking notice of the benifits of the diesel engine. Unlike the rest of the world where diesel has always been choice.

China is right on are back door when it comes to fuel consumtion. Look at china's population. Wait till every one there has two vehicles per household. The next time you buy some thing at the store and it says made in china. Thank your self for boomimg china's economy.

Fuel prices are fixed... . Corperate greed. Diesel takes less energy to refine, no reason for it to be more expensive...

I have been told several times that the cost increase is due to Govement requirements for low sulfer fuel to cut down on soot. I am also under the impression that soot is just that, and really is not harmful, just looks bad. Sort of like the Goverment requiring the 1. 6 gallon flush toliet, when they really are not plumbing experts, and acted on a perceived problem, and made it worse!

OPEC said that it was because of the Olympics being on the oppisite side of the world from the main Fuel Suppy and the added trasportation is driving the cost up. it must take alot to prepare for the olympics???

I have basically heard the exact same thing. This process requires the refinery to separate H2 from natural gas, compress it and bubble it through the fuel. H2 bonds with the sulfur to make H2S which is a toxic gas. (All of us from the oil patch know what it does. ) Then, I think they recover some H2 from the H2S again and have sulfur residue.

We sell natural gas to a few refineries and they have already been talking to us about increasing their capacity for this process. Diesel gets it first, but they are telling us that it will happen to gasoline shortly thereafter.

I think the next time you buy something made in China, we can thank ourselves for footing the bill for the Chinise military which will come back as a bullet in your son's or grandson's belly in the near future ... and the whole sale slaughter of people in Taiwan when they attack, or the sinking of the 7th fleet in the China sea with their new fleet of subs and guided missles.

China is following the same path as Japan did in the 20's and 30's
