Truck is a 2001 24V Auto has a badly cracked exhaust manifold, havn't checked the fuel press but pulled off the feed line to VE pump and cycled key and lift pump is putting out a good stream of fuel.

Truck has no power and misses above 2100 rpm free reving.

Codes Pulled

P0216 (M) Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure High fuel supply restriction, low fuel pressure or possible wrong or incorrectly installed pump keyway.

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC

Detected in ECM A 9 Companion DTC9 was set in both the ECM and PCM.

Any Suggestions, Thanks In Advance

Thats what I was seeing on past posts. So the P0216 usually means the VP-44?

Anybody heard of these symtoms? Missing above 2100 rpms free rev? Low power?

Thanks for the input this is the first vp-44 problem I have saw.

Yeah, ditto. I had the same when my VP quit! Middle of the Mohave Desert at 115 degrees. It wasn't fun. Don't put it off because it will quit at the WORST possible time!!

Anybody heard that TST has a VP out now?? I heard this but didn't know if there was any truth to it or not... maybe I'm just behind.

Hey Red Stroke, you might want to change your call sign to Red Streak, as this is the mark you'll have on your walled after all that bleeding you'll do to pay for those darn pumps! :)

I feel your pain, I am going through the same with my truck. Don't feel bad, my buddy has gone through 4 LP's with his '02! I guess the trick is to switch horses and get an after market LP with your new VP. I ended going with Industrial Injection because they appear to have a good reputation and they do their own work while making sure they have the latest technology from Bosch. I guess if you look hard enough you could get the VP for lower than $1050 but is it an older one? You might want to call them and find out for yourself.

Good luck.

Unless its been rebuilt and on the shelf for well over a year now it will have the latest version (030) PSG or at least the 029. Most commonly called the "fedex" pump.

injection pump failure

Last week I was in Yellowstone park when my enging light came on... Nearest dodge dealer was Livingston, Montana..... Service manager would not even take a look at it and check the code all he said was that he is backed up a week and a half and if the engine lite is not blinking your fine to drive it back to California. If you ever have problem up in that area, make sure you head in another direction cause I'm sure you'll get the same kind of responce from them... . (or they just hate people from California). .

Took it to my home Dodge Dealer today with the same code and they said that the Injection pump needs to be replaced... . I'm not sure what the diff is between the lift pump, injection pump and VP44 but Thank God it's still under the Diesel engine warranty.

Also note: Everybody on TDR probally knows this accept for me... if you switch on and off the key 2 or 3 times and leave the key in the on position, the error codes will be displayed in the odometer window... Not sure what years but I have an 02'

I've had 0216 for about 3000 miles, and no problem yet. As a matter of fact, I should check to see if it's still there. I've heard of pumps that survive the code.

Big A

Thanks Guys we threw on a new pump this weekend and she runs great. CEstep thanks for the offer on the pump you had but we went another route.

Mine goes to the dealer on Thursday. It is showing those codes along with dead petal and dies occasionally. Dealer is going to install a new lift pump in the tank (not what I wanted). My question is, how will that solve my problems. Are they just trying to buy some time until the warranty expires in December?

Thanks.
