I am thinking about buying the JRE Cold Air Induction kit for my '99 since my stock airbox is cracked and my local 5 star dealer wants $300 for a new one. (What a joke!)

Does anyone have the JRE cold air induction installed on their truck?

How much did you pay for it?

Was it hard to install? (I have minimal mechanical experience)

What type of gains, if any did you experience?

Any other suggestions for replacement of the stock airbox would be welcome as well.

I have there heat shield which is a piece of there cold air kit. If i rember correctly, all the cold air kit is, is the heat shield and an RE-0880 filter. The heat shied keeps heat from radiating from the Turbine to the filter. It still draws air from the federwell, but there is no housing, just the filter. The heat shield is nicley made, it comes with teh metric nuts and the rubber bushings to mount it. No holes to drill, it uses the stock airbox studs.

Did it make any EGT difference??

For you guys out there that already have the RE-0880 the heat shield is around 50 clams and is now made of stainless steel.

Here is another post I made about the JRE Cold Air Induction

I was going to order one today, but alas Ted is on vacation till the 9th and the shop is closed... .

I cant tell if it lowered EGT's since i installed it at the same time as i installed the Psychotty. However, i did see EGT drops of over 100 degrees after installation of both.

Why do you have the heat shield and the Psychotty? I thought the Psychotty was a solo unit that was all enclosed and drew air through the fire wall? If this is the case, then it seems that you are going overkill?

I have it for 2 reasons. First, it acts as a shield to keep the radiant heat from heating up the psychotty housing. I know it helps becasue the heat shield gets HOT and the Psychotty housing stays farily cool. Its obvious if there was no shield there the psychotty would be alot hotter and therefore be heating up my intake charge air. The second reason is, i was at Janetty's shop right after i ordered the Psychotty (It had not arrived yet) and he said "You may not like how loud it is, if you dont, use the filter and this Shield instead of the psychotty". So for $35. 00 i figured how could i go wrong. The next day the Psychotty arrived and i installed them both and it has been great ever since. I would not say its overkill, there is really no way your intake air could be TOO cool. Every little bit helps.

I have JRE's Cold air induction too. "Cold air induction" is kind of misleading. It's basically a heat shield. Overall I'm happy with mine. Fit & finish is a '8'. The weather strip on the top edge of the shield is not included. Even if it was, its useless. There is still a mile of room between the top edge of the shield and the hood insulation when its shut.

I have cool air coming into the filter from 2 sourses. A 4. 5 inch Psychotty hole in the cowl and the fender air intake. This really gets the cool air towards the filter. I junked the Psychotty housing, and just run a K&N RE-0880.

The JRE heat shield gives you a good starting point to build you own homemade air box with cardboard & duct tape? This would keep ALL the hot air out and only cool air in. I may try this if I get ambitious. :)

I didn't get rubber bushings with mine. Maybe thats why its contacting an A/C line.

Hey Hemi, my heat shield even with the rubber bushings still contacts the A/C line under it. I just got some adhesive foam tape and stuck it on the A/C line, problem solved. I know it does not block all the hot air, but it helps. I painted mine with black BBQ paint to make it look more stock appearing which i know kills alot of the heat reflectiveness, but it still works.
