I was looking at installing something like a pioneer or jensen navigation head unit in my 05. i know it will require some trimming of the bezel, but what about the mounting in the dash? Thanks in advance.

I had to put the fold out retractable screen unit from Pioneer in my 2003. The stereo shop said the fixed screen would not fit in any but the 2006. For what it is worth we are really impressed with the fold out screen unit, and it seems pretty stable.

I posted this same question in a stereo installer forum (www.the12volt.com) where there are lots of professional installers who share tips and info. One installer said that Mopar sells a double DIN install kit but he did not know the part number. I was asking about a 2006 truck though, so I dont know if it applies to your 2005. I too would like to install the Pioneer double DIN AVIC navigation system, its an extremely nice unit and its reasonably priced compared to most other DVD NAV systems. I betcha you have to buy the OEM trim bezel for a 2006 truck equipped with the OEM (Alpine) Navigation option. On the 2006 it's double DIN (ONLY when you get the OEM NAV system option). I'm really disappointed in the new 1. 5 DIN dashes which have those silly half moons cut out of the dash for the stereo knobs.

That looks really good. I want to do a DD in mine, kind of got excited when I thought there was a panel I could just purchase instead of make. :(

They better be able to. I just had the audio place and installer place order the dd kenwood dvn-7100?? to be installed.

The '06 nav unit is larger than double DIN. I think a saw an adapter kit somewhere that you could buy for it to fill in the gaps. So you could buy the 06 nav dash piece and the adapter kit and probably have an easy install.

I went full custom and bought an '06 nav dash piece, had the opening glassed in and sent it in to be wood grained along with my other trim pieces. There are pictures in the gallery in my signature.

Sometimes the gallery link doesn't work (DTW is not the most reliable site). If that's the case, go to http://dodgetruckworld.tenmagazines.com, click on members and look for drurywoodson or the puroram (soon to be "MegaDsl") gallery.
