Don't give them the chance... ... throw in a paper element. Dealers can deny warrantee if they choose to be real snotty. :-{}

when I bought my 2000 the dealer specifically said "No K&N air filters". I have no idea why. I have had one on my Jeep for years without problems.

Especially strange - since around that time Dodge dealers were offering a "performance" air intake system designed around the K&N filter...

Sorta wonder if Cummins objected to the competition with their Fleetguard filters...

Gary, need we wonder... LOL

K&N makes a wonderful rock screen for a turbocharged Diesel!!

Ran them on all kinds of gassers, not impressed on the Cummins.

Say Dan, ever run an oil sample?

"Say Dan, ever run an oil sample?"

Come off it Gene you've seen MINE with the K&N - or do ya wanna see it AGAIN?... :p ;) :D

(edit)

AH, ta hell with it here it is, might as well save time and confusion:

#ad

6500 miles on the oil in this analysis, mostly towing, full Banks setup, tweaked pump...

Be aware this was the last of 3 nearly identical oil analysis on my old '91 - all at at 100,000 miles or so - with a "nasty old K&N", "snakeoil STP", and an "idiotic" toilet paper oil bypass filter... Only just recently reached enough miles with the '02 to start getting reliable, settled-in readings, but will post those too as they occur.

NOW here's the challenge for ANY who wanna take it - put in a new crankcase full of YOUR favorite oil - synthetic or otherwise - use whatever additives YOU choose - or none at all, and use whatever bypass and air filtering setup you want - then let's compare analysis results...

No fancy footwork here, no "50,000 miles on the oil with extended drain, divided by X" tapdancing - simply put in 3 gallons of yer favorite oil, DRIVE 5-7000 miles, test the oil and post results!

Shucks, that's even easy enough for a sledpuller to handle... :D :D :D

Any takers?:p

Hate to agree with you ( :-laf ) but *my* silicon was 34PPM with a K&N and 7PPM with a paper filter, problem solved for me. By the way, it was properly oiled.

Gary, all your report proves is the K&N works with California dust not real world dust ;)

HEY, you might have a point there!:)

Using my truck mostly towing a 5th wheel, we HAVE been all over the US - including Texas - been thru a few dust storms in the process - but I'm sure the REAL test is constant off-road type use.

I have NO illusions as to the K&N being the "best" air filter - only that it is better than most critics give credit for - I personally think a BHAF type is the best way to go for no-doubt-about-it air filtering, and may well end up with one myself...

I have talked to Cummins and they STRONGLY say not to use them something about the amount of air they allow thus they aren't filtering as good as a paper element with the foam, as the manufacture says. I don't want to risk a $5000 engine for a little bit more power. Just my opinion
