Anyone here do "HOTSHOTS" for companies

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone did "HOTSHOTS" for companies. A hotshot is when a you go to a company and they give you a ring whenever something needs to be delivered NOW!!. I was wondering if anyone does this and how is it? is the money worth it?

I looked into this a while back. If you want to do RVs or trailers, it seems that most come out of Indiana. For me in Colorado, not good. It also seemed that the only way to make good money is if you don't mind being on the road allot.

I did some local hot shot stuff. The pay was ok at best. The company I worked with did all rush deliveries. That means this trip is across town with a letter. The next is 200 miles with 400lbs. It served my purpose of a job I could walk away from when school started back up.

Also, you can expect to put 200+ miles a day on your truck.

Make sure you do your homework. Before you sign a contract, try to talk with some of the other drivers and get their opinions.

I have been doing it for two years now after working 7 years in the aviation industry (Avionics). I enjoy it. It is up and down like the aircraft industry but I do not have to worry about lay-offs and such. The company does not provide health insurance, we do have a 401k. I make more doing this vs. aviation. Seem to have more time with the family. Wife can stay home and properly raise our 12 month old daughter. In fact in the morning I have a 16k pound heat exchanger I have to haul to houston. That will put about 24k, including trailer, behind the old cummins. This will be the most I have had behind the truck since the DTT install and the DD1's.



Feel free to ask any questions or PM me. If I am not mistaken OTRPU hauls mostly RV's and some other stuff every once and a while. We have talked quite a bit. He is a good guy and also willing to answer your questions aswell. May take him a bit longer to answer your questions as he is busy and not on here as much as he would like. But he checks in when he gets a chance.
