I bought my 01 in 05 with 101,000 on the clock. The APPS went out around not too long after that,120,0000 IIRC and I replaced it with a factory unit. It started acting up around 70,000 mile later ( I drive an average of 52,000+ a year), and I have continued to put off replacing it due to cost, and it is an intermittent problem. I now have 316,000 on the truck, and it has been doing well for quite a few miles. Some of the things that I have observed over this many miles are; Coasting down hills will cause a dead pedal, and so will using cruise control. In town stop-n-go will sometimes do it, but the former 2 will almost guarantee it. My normal routine was to switch off the engine, coast for a count of 10, then restart. The cruise control would trigger it about a minute after turning it off. Recently I discovered that pushing in the clutch will reset the APPS back to working. When a dead pedal occurs I stuff in the clutch, pump the throttle, and it comes back. I haven't been using my cruise control for some time now,and have had very little problem with the APPS. I know this isn't any kind of a fix, but just some observations over 126,000 miles since it started acting up again. I hope my experiences may also help explain how to get back down the road if it happens to others.
