Anyone know why the APPS seems to need recalibrated from time to time?

Just curious as to what causes this, is it driving habits or something else?

Thanks

DB

Not sure. I have 74K miles on my 3 yeard old truck. The only time I tried recalibrating the APPS was 18 months ago when I thought it was hosed, it turned out to be something else. But I have been extremely lucky with my truck, have had very, very few problems with it :)

I believe that any time you remove the battery terminals, for any reason, the APPS sensor has to be re-calibrated. It's a simple proccess but it does loose memory without battery voltage.

My truck engine speed started hunting when holding steady at pedel going down freeway. I changed out APPS sensor and truck is normal now. It ain't cheap it was $375. 00 from Dodge dealer. Comes as whole assembly, bell crank, bracket and sensor.

Is this only available from the Dodge Dealer or can I purchase from a Cummins distrib?

Thanks,

Jason

Factory service manual has you re-learn the APPS as the first thing to do any time the batteries are disconnected and then re-connected. Also, anytime the computers are reprogrammed, etc.

I would think you should have to do it periodically, though. Maybe something losing connection once in a while?
