ARP head studs

Where is the best place to get the ARP head studs for my 97 12 valve. I got the part number from ARP 247-4203 and a retail price of of $491. Called Summit racing with the part number, they wanted like $450 for a set. What gives? I thought they were like $350 from Summit.



Are ARP really better than what Haisley Machine sells for $450? If it's the same quality, I'd rather get them from Haisley Machine.

I noticed this too. When they were first available Summit was selling the for around $350.

I ordered arp studs from F1diesel, thanks Bob. I just did the paypal thing online, works good.



I'm glad I bought the arp studs, sounds like they are mucho better.

I got my haisleys at 138# cold retorqued 5 times in5000mi. after 2nd retorqued there always were i left them. there 12mm.

I just replaced the A1 studs with ARP studs. One of the A1s started twisting and broke at the recommended torque. Probably just a fluke. But It cost me 400 plus the time it took to replace. And the A1 studs need to be machined to length to fit properly. They tend to be a little long.

I wonder if i'm gonna have to trim the arp studs to make the valve covers fit on my 12 valve. My buddy had to trim his other brand studs to make the valve covers fit on his 12 valve. Not sure what brand they are.

I have used both Haisley's and ARP and with both or any others the covers on the 12V need to be ground to clear the nuts. I like both brands but do like the ARP being less prone to corrode like the Haisley's did when I blew a head gasket at the #2 -3#water jacket.

make sure you bottom tap the hole to the bottom. i had to trim top and grind the valve cover

If you can't find a tap long enough to go through the head let me know. I can tell you where to get one, or loan you one. Or you can weld an extension on a short one. But you farm guys probably could of figured that out.

I'll be taking off the head anyway when I fire ring the head, so I should be right there to tap the threads deeper. Us farm boys know how to make something work, or totally mess it up trying to make it work. We have way to much time to think in the tractors. Listening to that 8. 3 Cummins all day does my heart good.

Glad you took the farm guy comment the way it was intended. A farmer up the road from me asked me to help make some parts for a waterwheel. Easy stuff, bearing housings and some shafts. Just has a ditch running through the property. Irrigation district engineers laughed at him for putting the wheel in the ditch and running the water under, instead of over the wheel. He is pumping water 170 feet up onto the top of a hill for a project he is doing. Nobody is laughing at him any more. I have seen him fix stuff that was impossible, because he had to make it run.
