ARP studs length differences??

A friend of mine just installed ARP studs.

Visually several of them were longer than one another out of the package.

Is this normal? what is the purpose?

The longer studs go down the exhaust side of the head. If you put them there and look closely at the amount protruding it should be about the same for all of them.

Did you have to shave or modify the studs to work with your 03?

One or two of the back one made very slight contact with the valve cover. Just enough to cause an oil leak. Place the cover on the engine and tap it with a rubber mallet. You may see a couple of shiny spots at the rear of the cover. We just ground the cover slightly and used a fresh gasket. For the first time since I've owned the truck the valve cover is bone dry all the way around.
