just replaced my vp under warranty at 84000, lift pump has been changed twice in the last 50k. Took it to Karl Klement Dodge in Decatur, TX on monday morning at 9, they called at 9:45 and said they were gonna change the pump. At 2:30 that same afternoon they called and said they were done and i could come pickup the truck. I was shocked, talk about service.

Thats about right time wise, remember, these guys are getting lots of experience changing out the VP44. Mine went dead out in the Arizona desert east of Yuma(77K miles). Had it towed back to the Dealer in Yuma and about 4 hours after they started checking it out I was back on the road with a new VP44.

"Blue Chip Diesel in NH replaced it with one that has the updated circuitry used in the delivery trucks. Not a lick of trouble since. "

How can you tell if you got an updated pump during replacement? or How do you locate one of these?

Thought I would add to the post 46,000 miles flat pedal 216 code reset code on thursday back on friday im calling a dealer this week. third lift pump

my lift pump went out in 2001 when I had 8k on it. Standing me and my Father in Columbus OH for the Mopar Nationals. then last month my "big" one went out with 74K. I love Cummins warranty. The only thing I didn't like was DODGE made me buy a fuel filter and have them install it close to 80 bucks. didn't like that at all.

I HAD ot buy a fuel filter also, $89. They would not warantee it without the new fuel filter. True BS.

My lp had been changed by another dealer that "solved" the 216 with a lp change.

OK, now the real question.

How do we KEEP THE VP's RUNNING? The next one will probably be on us ($1800). How do we break the cycle?

VP dead at 90,000

Mine died at 90,000 miles, wire was tapped so I put the Blue Chip Fed Ex version in and it runs fine with mileage back to where it belongs. DW

First one died at 92000 under warranty. Just had the second one put on at 150000 by Scheids in Lafayette. First one just died altogether, second one got hard to start when it was hot and it would die when I put it in gear. Went with the HP VP-44 this time and so far I really like it.

about 60K

my lift pump went out in Nov. The dealer would not test the pressure of the lift pump, just the volume - the volume was in the bottom of the spec. list. Drove the truck for a month with it coding out and me taking it to the dealer with them stating it was still in spec. Got fed up with the dealer and went to Liberator Performance in Carlise. They did the pressure test and explained why a pressure test is needed and why the volume test is second best. He talked me into the FASS system. Truck ran great for 5 months then the VP 44 started acting up with codes. Went to a different dealer and they hooked me up with a new injector pump in May. Runs great since.

Remember -

get a pressure test done, it will save u headaches.

176,000 and still goen. Don't ask me why. Been watchen the FP since somewhere around 75k. been through 3 LP's and finally installed a FASS at 154k. Started BOMBing around 50k. Been pulling a 15k 5er since day 1. Smoked the engine pullen a 6% grade at 154k and melted #6.

Mine has app. 73000 miles on it now. Had dealer replace FP under warranty with in-tank unit last week. Had 3psi before replacement and now have app. 5-6 psi. vp-44 replaced at app. 69000 miles. Does new fuel pressure sound good to anyone?

My dads truck has had 2 replacement VP's under warranty one at 40000 miles and one at 85000 miles. it has had lift pump replaced 4 times now. BTW it is an 02 6 sp HO.
