anybody using the cfm+ intake? was planning on getting an ATS but found the cfm online. I wonder if the composite material will hold up as well as the ats?

test were done on both by try valley diesel, and others and results of one of the test's was published in tdr i think around issue 54 or 56. we did not know others were testing and tested the two. all test showed the same the cfm+ is superior to the ats in many ways. instead of throwing the ats away we took a die grinder and a sandblaster to it and after an hour we had it where it would flow half way from where we started with it and the cfm+. the cfm+ composite does not transfer the heat back into the air like the ats does either.

I have the CFM+, and I like it. Now, if I had to quantify that statement, it would be hard. In other words, if somebody sneaked the stock intake horn onto my truck while I wasn't looking, would I even notice? Probably not... Not until I popped the hood!
I've seen pictures of guys with way more horsepower than me and they are still running the stock intake horn, it makes you wonder...

Well thats what everybody seems to think about intakes, but I guess if it could make a little lower egt maybe it will be worth it one day when you get close to that redline. Plus I'm adding gauges at the same time, so I won't have to drill and tap.

I just installed a CFM+ before heading out on a trip with my 15k+ 5th whl. I found the egts to be a bit lower, maybe 100-200 deg less. It seemed like I could stay in 6th or 5th gear longer without exceeding the egt limit. I also did a grid heater delete.

I had an ats intake on my truck and took if off and put on a glacier diesel intake. No change in power but the GDP intake is half the price, easier to install, and easier to change fuel filter. My friend has the cfm and I think it is nicer than the ats but the GDP intake cost less. All three are ported.

Initially,I could feel a slight difference in hp w/my AFE but it wears off after a couple of blocks. The money would be better spent buying a Smarty Jr for seat of the pants improvement.

I spent many hours researching the this subject online. Most people notice little to no difference in performance or EGTs. I decided to look at the design of all the manifolds. The only one significantly different is the Banks Twin Ram. I liked the way It splits the air charge more evenly across the cylinders. The only reason Banks did not continue the design onto the 24 valve, was clearence issues. People can bad mouth Banks all they want. They do tend to be expensive and there modifications are mild compared to some. Testing and research is expensive. I was not ready to spend $650 on one though. I found one used at a good price on this websight's classifieds. I belive I saw one the other day for sale. After the install, I could noticably hear and feel the turbo spool up quicker and stronger. I would highly recommend one. Even at full price. If cash is an issue and you want to modifie your truck, there are other places to spend your money than an intake. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I don't know what the stock intake manifold looks like on your 95', but on the 3rd gens they have a HUGE restriction where the outboard mounting bolts are located.

On 3rd gens, the ATS, CFM, aFe, Glacier Bay will make a HUGE improvement in hp and torque starting at 1500 rpm to approx 2100 or 2200 rpm, where most of spend our time on the highway. They will also reduce the EGT and allow (or how it feels to you), the turbo to spool faster.

On my 3rd gen, I tow the 5er and the CFM+ was a big improvement for me and I like the way it looks. I was looking at the ATS also, but I found the CFM+ for approx $75 less. At the time, I didn't know about the GB, another fine product.

All of these manifolds made very little power difference at redline compared to stock.

For me, it was a no-brainer... more power at towing RPMs and lower EGTs...

If you are worried about the material holding up on the CFM+, then you have two fine choices in the GB and the ATS. I really like the GB and many different colors it comes in and the cost...

One more pet peeve of mine is how the ATS, aFe and especiallly the Banks have their stupid logo cast into the part. If I'm going to advertise for you, then the part should be FREE !! The CFM+ and the GB have no logo, but they make your engine compartment look nicer (if thats important to you... )

Hope this helps,

Louis

While I am not a big fan of Banks stuff, their twin ram intake is a great design. I have one (banks logo removed) and when pulling with the 5er it helps keep the egt's down.

I used to run a ported stocker and after installing the twin ram, the temp reduction was noticeable.
