The 2 tc's that we had here both had the billet cover that you guys are talking about. I hope they aren't prototype as real people actually paid for them less than 2 months ago. But again I can't tell you what you seen. "

As you can see, these were both purchased very recently. What gives?

Thanks,

Yes, assumptions can be dangerous but I wasn't assuming too much. I am just stating what I have heard here on this and the other thread. If this proves to be false then forgive me and I will shut up. I am NOT flaming anyone, and could give a flying f*** who uses who's parts. Like others have said... . compete on the same dyno... same day... same time... and let the bickering stop here. This is worst then a preschool class at nap time. :-{}

You know I bought the automatic (got a great deal), even though I wanted a 6 speed. Now I am kinda happy I got the auto. Reading all of the threads that the 6 speed guys put out about problems with their transmissions and now with what I know I can get from companies like DTT and ATS it sounds like I made the right buying decision. I'm about 2 1/2 years away from the transmission upgrade (got the 100K warranty) so it should give me plenty of time to figure out which way to go.

Warranties are a joke in most cases, Pit Bull. Don't let that stop you from enjoying the full potential of your Cummins Ram. I had mine BOMB'ed before it even hit 15,000 miles. Without the worries of a warranty, I'm free to take it to whatever garage I want, to get the best aftermarket replacement parts put on it, that is, the ones I can't replace myself or don't want to take the time to fool with. Better than being stuck taking it to the dealer to get the same crappy No-par stuff clapped right back into it.

Extended warranties cost $2500 in many cases... that will buy you a lot of parts. As for the 100K drivetrain warranty, I've had a couple of dealers honor it anyway in spite of the obvious modifications. Sorry to get off topic here.

Boy, I’m sure glad I have a BD Transmission that works just like BD said it would. I’m also glad I only have a lowly Banks Stinger Plus kit. The stress of having DTT or ATS transmissions and lots of horse power and having to defend it all the time is way more than I could handle. Remember guys this web site could be viewed by children, showing graphic pictures of torque converter autopsies could screw them up and make them buy manual transmissions. Lighten up. Jeff

:D :D :D :D

First off... . I think every one should put in their sig if they PAID for their parts and service or are SPONSERED. If you receive your "stuff" for free, your opinion does not mean much to me.

I would like some technical answers explained simply for my simple mind.

Thanks

Tom

P. S. I pay for my "stuff"

Nothing is free my friend. I will gladly pay for your transmission if you pay for all of the engine work and breakage I have paid for to get to a position that a company is interested in sponsoring me. I'm not concerned whether you care about my opinion, but I don't run around with my hand out. I work on other trucks, others work on my truck. Most of us test rigs are out here for you, the consumer. If I break something and the company sees that as a weak link, fixes it so you can have a better product, you benefit, right? You can have a little more respect for those of us out here trying to make a difference, sacrificing our trucks (downtime, etc. ) for your betterment.

Don't get me wrong, I love doing this, it is such a great passion.

BRAVERY

jeff, my hat is off to you! you are indeed a brave man. admitting to having a BD transmission AND a Banks stinger kit in the same post... ... ... ... WOW!!!!! :--)

Here ya go. While flaming may not have been the correct term, and I don't have time to look back at all of your posts, but I have read many from you that were at the very least a veiled attempt to stir the pot, and usually an outright rah rah for ATS.

As I said earlier, I am not a customer of DTT, but I have great respect for Bill and his crew. I do not know ATS, and am willing to let them prove themselves, but you as a moderator IMHO should be more neutral.

just my . 02 Let er rip..... I can handle it.

Well, I don't have an axe to grind for ATS OR DTT. I am just want to ultimately find out what is what. I, too, am in the market for transmission stuff, and having people post things that raise more questions than they answer is gonna make me ask more.

The integrity of how things are dealt with by them will be what influences me...

I don't think so.

Stack'd

I try to respect everyone. There was no disrespect intended. What I was saying was for example, if I were to ask you which transmission would be best for me, according to your sig, I already know what you would say. I wanted to hear from those that paid for their equipment if they liked it and would pay for it again or go else where.

I expect each company to have R&D and you are an extention of a company's R&D dept. to provide better products. I don't know you but I would guess to race or pull therefore can provide exposure for a product. This is a good thing and I wish you well. However, I pull a 30' TT and I doubt a company would be interested in sponsering me for that.

I still would like answers to my other questions if you or anyone else can help me learn about these things.

Thanks

TKilgore, we'll just slap my trailer hitch on Stack'd's truck, and see how much he can stretch the trailer tongue out on my one-year-old 30' Salem LTD travel trailer. We'll have to try to get video of him taking it up the mountains around here at 80mph. I don't mind a blown tire or a few missing panels, if it makes a believer out of you. As far as I'm concerned, drag racing is much harder on the entire driveline than pulling a reasonable load. Note: I said reasonable load. Unreasonable load? That would be a sled at a truck pull.

Can't promise how soon we can try pulling it with his truck. (we do have a campout coming up in May) I trust the truck and the transmission more than I do him, :D , he might forget it's back there while he's pulling it. :p

We have decided to edit the above post.

We have decided to remove this post. It is not our style at ATS, this was made only out of frustration. Keeping positive is the only road this company will take. We will not get involved in any negative posting.

There are a select few that will tell you EXACTLY what they think, sponsored parts or not.

I pay and barter for parts, always have, and sell other things. I would never sell someone something I did not think would work for them, and 99% of these guys out here won't either.

They will tell just what the part does, good or bad.

I beleive Eric is this type of person. :)

Tom I could not agree more. But I'm married and on a fixed income :) I have to practice long term saving and planning for upgrades. 5 year 100K warranty is to pay for what might break between now and when I save enough for the upgrades. I love cars/trucks but not enough to get a job and I can't talk the wife into getting a job to pay for my toys :(

Yeah, what gives??? Why would someone buy a transmission, have it fail, and NOT TAKE IT BACK TO THE PLACE THAT SOLD IT TO THEM TO MAKE IT RIGHT???? Are these customers so wealthy that they can walk away from $2000 in upgrades in less than two months, and have a completely different transmission installed by a different company? They must not be TDR members, otherwise they would be here, telling us their story. Where is the story? Obviously, DTT knows the customer and the history, otherwise how did they come by the tranmission? They have taken it upon themselves to post the pictures (only) and leave the rest of the story for "ATS to respond. " Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.....

Guys,

All I know is that the person wasn't overly happy about contacting me in the first place, but didn't want to deal with company x for some reason. I don't even know if he contacted them. I don't know whether he is a member or not but he asked me not to mention his name. I can tell you that he reads as called to tell me that he hasn't told that he hasn't told that he was a prototype. Plus he didn't understand why he seen something in the TDR magazine (the billet piece shown) in the ad, which was published before he received his TC when he got a stamped steel stock piece. The reason that there are no words is because I don't want to get kick off for saying the wrong thing, as i enjoy posting on this forum, and will continue to try and help members to the best of my ability. Plus my dad won't help me in the slightest on any info and I am not a trans guys and can't tell you what all the flaws mean.

Scollins, I guess some people have more money than me cause I can tell you that I couldn't do that.

Again the reason that I haven't talked about the pics is cause we have lost 1 member, I don't want to make it 2.

If there is anything that anyone wants to know just say it and I will post it as long as it won't get me booted. I make time.

QUOTE FROM A PREVIOUS POST

There is also a difference of uses for our trucks. I want to hear from the ones that tow, and no disrespect but I don't mean sleds either,.

I use my truck for a daily driver and to pull my camper so I'm not too interested in a drag truck.

It is my understanding some of the difference between TCs is the use of lock up. If I'm wrong please state facts. I want to know what is best for ME regarding lockup.

If I am pulling my camper my rear tires will not break loose and disipate the power so something has to give to absorb the extra torque. Do both DTT and ATS TCs absorb the torque is different manners?

Will an ATS converter work with another VB.

What upgrades are required from ATS? Can you use just the TC and VB?

I think it was Canderson, forgive me if I'm wrong, that was using a TC saver. What is it and where did it come from?

It is also my understanding the DTT smart controller will keep the TC locked even in second gear if you want.

I would like some technical answers explained simply for my simple mind.

Thanks

Tom

The above questions were asked a while back in this thread and I don't think anyone has answered them. I too am interested in upgrading my transmission and would like answers. Why can't we get some straight answers? I know there are knowledgeable people out there that can answer these questions?

beartrace,

I can't speak for anybody but DTT, the Smart Controller is mostly for those who have exhaust brakes. It will down shift you from OD to 3rd gear when the rpm's get to low. Plus when accelerating it won't allow you to go into OD until the speed that you have adjusted is achieved. Meaning no luggin the motor down a 40mph/1200rpm's as the truck tend to do. Although I don't have a brake I still use one, and don't feel that I need a brake. The braking feel almost as good as when I had one. Plus I don't tow. It feel just like the engine brakeing you would get with a stick.

If you have any other questions please feel to ask.

Thats interesting because they have been using only billet covers for the TC's in the diesels for 3 years. Thier triple-lok will not fit inside a stamped steel OEM cover. Seems pretty fishy!

Did that TC come from a diesel?

Stakeman,

Actually if you go back to Page 6, Stefan posted up a pic that is the front of the cover of the TC. Yep... its a billet cover.

Just thought I'd point you out to that pic, hopefully it answers your question.
