When cold or at least sitting for a while my 47rh doesn't want to shift into 3rd and flares up(no drive). Once I drive for a couple hundred yards the problem dissappears. I can understand not wanting to go when cold if the converter has drained down(installed transgo kit last year). I'm thinking maybe one of the valves is sticking. I'm going to pull down the valve body and see whats up. Anyone ever have the same senario?I am planning on at least installing a tc with a rebuild and possibly a valve body from someone who knows trannys(georend) but until then I want to make sure I'm not burning up my clutches. during the flareups

J,

Mine did the same thing. I was told there is a "lip seal" that leaks pressure internally that causes the problem. My transmission man told me that it would eventually fail to go into reverse and that from there it wouldn't be long until it left me walking. He was right, it got to where it wouldn't go into reverse. I opted to put in a manual transmission. If I had had the money and know what I know now I would have gone with a built auto, probably from Dave.

Good luck,

Scott

I'm not a transmission guy but I have a transmission guy to ask questions too.

If you would ask me I would say there is an internal leak, 2nd and 3rd share the same curcuit, meaning the supply that releases the 2nd gear band also applys third gear. If you had just a tiny flash of say 50 rpm that would be perfect, but a big flash is not and that shows by it going away. If the band is too tight then then 2nd is on with 3rd applied..... not good for clutches.

First think I would do is adjust the band as per cumming specs and go from there.

Jim
