Banshee,

The #'s are all in the way you look a it.

You talk about Jeff Garmon runs 11. 60 with a vehicle that is 3000lbs lighter than Keith from DD who ran a 11. 97. Which do you think is holding more hp.

For those who drag race, it's a well known fact that 1000lbs is worth approx. 1 sec. So if they are making the hp Jeff's converter must be slipping like crazy.

My race vehicle runs 8 sec. @ 165mph and only weighs 700lbs more than Jeff's truck.

Let's let the moderators do their job please. Nothing in Briars post violates the guidelines in any way. There is plenty of heat in these auto transmission threads that we do not need to add to it. I'm watching these posts pretty closely because they nearly always get out of hand. This one (as many do) is skirting around the edges but is staying within the guidelines at this time. There is no need for further discussion on either side of this.

There is one thing on this thread that's disturbing and could be construed as violating the guidelines that I'd like to see go away. That is if anyone has a problem with what a particular user is posting on the board rather than bringing it up on the board email me at -- email address removed -- or pm me and I will handle it. We don't need posturing here on the boards, as I said above these threads are heated enough as it is.

Did Kieth ever run under 12 again, or just that 1 time?

StakeMan:

It is my understanding that he just recently ran in the

low 10's with that truck!! I KNOW someone on this

site will surely correct me if I am wrong "Stake!";)

Jeff's Converter is not slipping!!

Boy these transmission threads are flat crazy.

First - Jeff's truck last year was over 4600 lbs in race trim and it ran a best of 11. 59 sec. This all with a cracked head and block that we discovered during tear-down this winter. If there was any slipping going on it was the slicks.

Second - Jeff has run a best of 10. 74 @ 125 this year in the new truck. I'm sure there are a ton of folks doing the math so I'll save everyone the trouble. 515 rwHP @ 40psi and 3835 lbs with Jeff in it. Jeff's problems at this point are NOT HP or transmission slippage. It is hooking the 33-16. 5-16 slicks to the pavement. He has managed a 1. 45 60ft but is still spinning. When the traction issue is worked out he WILL add power again.

Finally - everyone posts their personal best times in signatures, etc. but understand Jeff hasn't run a 12 second pass in years unless the truck was hurt. After the first two passes this year, he has not run above a 10. 96. WE all know there are fast tracks and slow ones. I'm sure we will run great in Muncie since that track is a bit down hill, Bradenton was slightly uphill but Jeff still managed to set the record at 10. 89.

I'd like to also comment about Jeff's truck. I was about 100 feet away at Bradenton when Jeff set the record. I tell you what, when he launched, I was sure he'd broken something. First off, he did a serious burnout to get them slicks grippy, then he built boost and staged. When he launched, I heard a really loud "SNACK" sound come from his truck. My first thought was "*&%$! He broke the truck trying to set the record!..... Of course, for a broken truck, he's still going awfull fast!" Well, I tracked him down later and asked him about the sound and asked what broke. It was the slicks that broke! :--) They were getting a little bit of slip at the line and sliping again on the 1-2 shift. Now what does this say about his transmission? Not much. What does it say about his power? That's it's actually on the low side (That says something when 515HP is on the low side :D ). What does it say about the traction? He's at the limit.

Now, what does this have to do with the rest of the ever-present, ongoing transmission saga? Nada, I just thought it was cool. :D

I believe that any of the big few auto trannys are night and day better than stock. Can a ATS hold 1700+ ft lbs of torque? I don't know, and I don't care. Can a DTT hold that much? Again, i don't care. Why? Because I'm not pumping out 700+ HP and 1700+ ft lbs of torque. Now, if I ever do, I know what auto I'm using... ... ... an Allison MD3060. Six foreward gears, two ODs (0. 85 and 0. 65) and capable of taking 550 HP and 1560 ft lbs of torque stock! Now that's a bad auto  . Now, if I can only get it to fit... ... ... .....
