I have been getting emails from FCA on the airbag recall. I have been dragging my feet till the salt gets washed off the roads. I also hate going to the dealer mostly because of the temptation of looking at newer trucks. So hard to resist......

Mine is going in this week to have the recall done and it is extra hard for me since I actually need a new truck. I'll have willpower to resist I hope.

FCA is getting pressured by the feds to complete 100% of these recalls by the end of the year. The feds were originally wanting them done by the end of last year but it didn't happen. The sooner they get done the sooner the feds will be off their back. The phone calls are FCA's way of showing the feds that they are doing their due diligence.

There have been enough people injured or killed by the bags that it makes me wonder why anyone would protect their truck more than their life or that of their passengers. This one seems like a no brainer to me.

In my case, there wasn't a dealer here until February 1 when the new CHarper Ram opened. Before that, the closest dealer was over 25 miles away.

That may not seem like much, but when you are on the road as much as I am, that 25 mIle distance to drop off and pick up your vehicle adds some complications to scheduling.

Had the airbag recall done earlier this week. Interesting thing was the service advisor recognized my last name and asked if my brother ever deleted his 2012 CTD truck. The service advisor actually advised him to do this because of a reoccurring emissions CEL. Never thought I would hear this from a dealer. I had them check the steering in my truck (wandering around) and suggested it needed a new drag link and track bar. Kind of surprised about the track bar as I just put some of Geno's bushings in the factory track bar. I will have to check it again for play.

My 03 had the passenger side done two years ago, but the dealer said the driver side was not on the recall list. I asked him if they were the same item and he said yes they were. Have you ever heard of only the passenger side being needed?
Thanks.

I think they're physically different. The driver side is a smaller unit tucked into the steering wheel. The passenger side is larger as it has to fill more space when deployed.

so tell me how do you lock it up so the dealer ship can't mess with your ECM . i have no trust with any dealer ship thank's for the info...

Well I finally gave in and had my recall done. I started getting air bag light, turn signal indicators in dash have a mind all their own and whole dash has about a one-second delay (tach and gear indicator). Took it back to the dealer and they claim my instrument cluster is bad.

Is your truck a 2006? I can't see your signature from my phone.

Very common for instrument cluster failures on the '06. Do a search in this forum about it. There should be a lot of reading on the subject.

Many common electrical problems in the '06 all would cause a remarkable coincidence. Of course it is possible but it makes you wonder if tech shorted something that lead to the failure. I also believe it could be a compnent failure and the dealer would simply start by replacing cluster.

My 2007 is an absolute electrical nightmare so I can sympathize. What is more frustrating is that it always doesn't end up being the component that you are having issues with, but something that you would assume would be completely unrelated. If it were only the gauge lights you were having problems with, I would tell you to look at the drivers side rear door wiring harness. As crazy as it sounds, that's one of the issues I had.

Best of luck and feel free to ask if you run in to anything you have a question on. Unfortunately, I have lots and lots of experience with this.

There are some good YouTube videos on how to repair the solder joints on the cluster. They are easy if you have a pencil soldering gun. We have done a couple at school and it has worked every time.

They must have been well rehearsed when mine was done. Didn't take near as long as the service manager said. I'll have to try the donut trick for any more recalls.

I can't get an answer from FCA or the dealer on who makes the replacements and if it is Takata what propellant is used. If it is still rocket fuel propellant then there is no point in doing the recall. If getting the recalls completed was really a priority at FCA you'd think they would answer the simple question!

Anyone have Sergio's home number so I can forward the robocalls to him? Bet that would get an answer fast.
