Competition Axle hop

So whats the cheepest-first/Best-second, way to fix a 5speeds axle hop and still be street freindly? 40 foot traction bars welded to the frame? or some of them funny spring thingeys that bolt to the top of you spring pack? Any other sugestions?

Caltracs have worked well for me so far. Competition Engineering has recently come out with a bar that is similiar to the Caltracs also.

If you want to pull the sled, Caltracs will fold like a piece of paper. Drag racing they will do but still not the best solution.

As far as drag racing, I think they are the best solution for the dollar spent. Of course a four-link is better but cost is much greater too.

He pulled 210. Gene told him he would break either the rearend (which he did) or his U-joints, or his transfer case with the rubber he was running. Of course Matt didn't care, he was having fun. :-laf



It was when you posted the CalTracs would fold like paper in sledpulling I didn't understand that comment. I agree there are better choices for pulling, but his did fine from what I was told.

What wall thickness are those tubes? For that length the pullers I talked to at IRP said less than 1/2 would bend. I saw some Fords do just that.



Sorry David, I should said "like clothes hangers". Caltracs have their purpose and sledplling ain't it. I'm going by what the pullers told me. While you were dynoing 2 days I was asking questions of the pullers. What worked and what didn't. But then, a lot of the pullers stuff ain't for the street anyway. I think that was the question to start with. I got off track... ... ... ..... Sorry.

They look real nice from here. I went and looked and you do sled pull, so you may not want the Caltracs solution.

So how much you get into them so far Bhaner?

Them look like they would work for me.

You know after the GM I have never pulled again. I know this clutch would just go up in smoke. And I would like to pay it off befor I destroy it. Let me know how they work.

I would like the truck to ride "Like stock" for the most part. I do drive just a little.

1/4" wall will bend at sled pulling. i've seen it happen time and time again. solid or a minimum of 1/2" wall will work.

solid isn't the way to go, so don't do it --



use DOM tubing or chrome moly tubing---



I've been running 1. 75" x 1/4" wall DOM for almost 3 yrs now and they're 8' long and I've had no probs---longer is better and of course 1/2" wall would be great, but I don't think it's necessary unless your truck is making Scheid's/Van Haisley type power---chris
