Fiver Hitch Position - custom install?

Anyone have a Coleman Mach 3 Power Saver 13.5K A/C on their RV?

My Brother-in-law installed the turnover ball in my Father-in-laws new Mega and I have a couple questions.

In relation to the axle, where is the ball in your truck? This one is about 4-5" forward of the rear axle. Is this correct? We have a lot of issues turning with the horse trailer. I know the mega was not a good choice, but they wouldn't listen to me.

That is about right for placement. Any further back and you will have handling issues. We have to horse trailers. One has a very wide tack room that makes will hit the mega cab. Or the short bax super duty for that matter. Our other trailers tack room is much narrower and we have no problems with that one.

The big one is the one being towed with the Mega and causing the issues.

We are looking to get rid of the Mega for a longbox.

B&W used to make an offset ball for the short beds that helps a lot with turning. I have also seen a few offset gooseneck hitches that you can replaces your hitch on your trailer with.

The big trailer is probaly 8wide and that is where run in to trouble. I use to have short bed 3/4 ton ford that I used as trailer delivery truck and i would occasionally have to get and 8. 5 wide cargo trailer and deliver. I made an offset hitch for the cargo's gooseneck and carried in the truck so when I need to haul one all I had to do was to swap the hitches and I was good to go. They all seemed to pull as good, but I was always pulling empty trailers.

I would Try to make the mega work as you will take a big lick swapping it off. Heck you might even want to have it made into a long bed.

I know if money was no object for me that i would get mega and make it long bed to haul my horsetrailer.

If you look close in the pic the big trailer has a offset hitch on it.

We also have the B&W offset hitch when maneuvering tight spaces it gets put in.

We may keep this truck, just not sure yet. we've thought about the longbed option also.

It was worth a shot anyway. Take a look at my sig. It's got '08 wheels and tires!! and an '06 tail light housing. What does that make it, an '18? :) I just turned over 70K miles this week. Oh well, 4 more payments and it's all mine.

I own several trucks and each has the same hitch... . the hitch is correct in that you need the weight in front of the axle for correct loading... we have towed up to a 24K Lb trailer with our 04 Dually... yea its not the mega cab... but it handles the weight... .

If the structure on you horse trailer would allow it... . I'd modify it and move the hitch forward to allow more room...

If your really in love with the mega cab there are 2 guys who are now making a good living making those trucks a long box... turn key package I'm guessing around $6K. with bed...

I'm guessing you'd loose that amount trading for a long box...

He could care less about the truck. It can go and we can replace it. If it's not feasable to do so, we have thought about the longbox option. That would have to wait until the Fall though. The truck is being used during rodeo season.

Mega-Long could be the fix

I talked with someone yesterday who looked at one of the trucks that was modified in Utah and he wasn't very impressed with the fab work and how things were cut, welded and put back together.

I haven't seen one up close so I can't say either way.

After seeing that you have alread lenthened the hitch. The only options I see for you is a long bed one way or the other.

Good luck

Fixed the problem today.

My FIL bought a 08 Quad cab dually longbox 4X4 today.

I found it for him at Dave Smith.
