I'm trying to get some clarification, and so far nobody (at least in the chat room) has given me a straight answer.

Given the mods in my sig, will a B1 hurt or help me? My HX-40 is driving me up a wall because it doesn't make any boost to speak of until 2000 RPM. Basically, the truck is a slug to 2000, and then the power slams hard and it takes off. BUT, I still end up with higher EGT's than I think I should have (certainly better after DD tweaked the truck last year, but still high, especially now that I live at 4500').

Basically, given my altitude, I _have_ to keep the engine at or above 2200 RPM to keep my temps in check, in order to maintain speed up the rolling hills on the freeways. This is when I'm loaded, btw. And I only run the UPM in setting 1 or 2 (occaisonally 3), with the Response setting at 1 or 2.

When empty, the truck is a slug off the line... for as much power as I have, it sure doesn't do much. I couldn' even keep up with a Hyundai Tiburon no matter how hard I tried. The only time this thing is fast is on the freeway when the RPMs are already up around 2000.

So... will a B1 give boost at lower RPM, or do I need to start researching a twin turbo system?

Thanks.

Rob

those chat freaks are no good!!!

The HX40 is a good turbo for moderatly BOMBed folks. At the stage you are at I would look more closely at the B1, or DD's NEW turbo that will showing up very shortly(not the one they have now). It is not cost effective to go wtih twins unless;

a) you hotshot ALMOST every day.

b) you hotrod ALMOST every day

c) you sled pull to win(Dave Mitchell, Gene["Sled Puller"])

Remember this is my opinion. I hear the B1 spools around 1600-1800RPM. Because of your altitude, i'd say that latter part. But if I got money to throw down the drain, I'm calling Nowel(HVAC) for twins, NO DOUBT!

Very Interesting

I have a question, do you replace the stock turbo, or just add one?

I want to keep my BD turbo mounted E-Brake

Why not buy the B-1 and if you decide to go with twins later on you could use it as the big one, I talked turbo's with Kurt the other day and it seems that would be the way to go. If you decided to keep the 40 you could make twins out of it and a 35. There will be several folks making twin kits in the near future that will re-invent the wheel I'm sure. I'm at you point now also but there is a kicker I still have to get DV's and Injectors along with that and that takes $$$$. What's hard is wanting to buy from everyone but having to chose just one, as long as there is a market this Diesel stuff there is going to be allot of competition.

If you really are serious about twin, and I mean REALLY, then cantact Enterprise Engine at 740-246-6329. I think they are about the most complete source for twins, and pulling trailors. I hear they have about 10 different set ups that they use. Call and ask for yourself, just remember that they are VERY busy folks, lots of Dodges go in and out of that place.

I wouldn't make twins out of a 35 as the small one... it's too big. I like the idea of a B1 as the big turbo, but I'd use whatever Nowell used for his smaller turbo (something smaller even than an HY35), for very fast spool up at lower RPM.

I'll probably just sit tight for now... I do want a B1, but it won't be in the budget for another month or two... plus I'll talk to DD about their "new" turbo.

i went from the b-1 to twins and the twins are awesome!!! i have the hx-35-18cm as the small turbo and a huge turbo as the big 1. 5" in and out. nowell has a hx-40 as his small turbo.

the problem with using TOO small of a turbo is that it won't move the hot air out that would be made by the high horsepower. Something more to think about.

Andrew

I have one of Sparkys B-1 turbos and I cant wait to get it on.

That Sparkey I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER is going to follow him forever like a wound you pour salt into. Hey Kurt, thanks for taking the time chating on the phone with me as I'm just a driver of a CTD, your customer service is like Piers and Bill K's... . Keep up the good work and plug away at the things we were talking about!

Jim

If you are not turning high rpm for pulling, Mitchell's twins with the 35/16 is just plain LETHAL light to light. Can you say 50# of boost with a light BLIP of the throttle?Mine maxed at 84 with that set up.

It choked me up to much above 3000, I went with the 35/21, which still has way less lag than a 40, perhaps none, hard for me to say because of the big cam and high timing.

Twins let you go bigger little turbo wiht less lag.

I thoght of the B-1, but nixed it when I saw I would be half way to twin cost, and single turbos have a history of exploding at the track,(not Kurts that i know of, singles in general)

It's said in fun and all,we all had a good time at May Madness and that is something we all had a good laugh at. Kwik Kurt will always be known as Kwik Kurt with a splash of sparky once and awhile. IT'S NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL!

Hey Rob ... when you get that monster installed, pls drop me an e-mail. I'd sure like to take a look & listen. :D

Guys, Performance Diesel is working on a twin setup with the B1 as the primary turbo. I have high hopes for this combo, but we need to get Mr. Sutton back down here to my place to finish up the project. About one more days work and we can take the first test drive.

Also, I would add that the modified diesel class in the recent sled pull here on the coast was won by Chris. He and the second place finisher both were running B1 turbos. Then Chris won his class in Vegas last weekend too.

My twin setup is working quite well and was instrumental in hitting 600. 5 horsepower on #2 only. Last year I could hit 44 psi on the dyno, but with my latest twin configuration I'm killing that figure:)

I need to know more about this! I currently have a Garret tv-7511 (new/rebuilt) just sitting here. It has an intake A/R of . 75 and an exhaust of . 96. It is a very big turbo, I'm dieing to try twins, and no one can tell me how it will work with my B1. Kurt? HVAC? Anyone?

Anyone? Oo. I wanna try it!
