Howdy all it was rough not being able to get on the TDR for 10 days straight but I am back and what a great truck to pull with and go through the mountains with, the truck worked great their wasn't a mountain or pass I couldn't take at or above 40 mph and still averaged 13-14 mpg's but I do have a few questions though egts were able to hit 1300 without trouble so that is what kept me from taking those mountains any faster any suggestions on how to lower and if it is with a 4 inch exhaust will they work with a exhaust brake? I will be adding about 3000 lbs. to the trailer with a jeep and will be wanting to put on a exhaust brake before next year (I wish I could get in on the group purchase of the brakes but just after vacation and the wife HAD to get a new Chrysler Concorde will prevent me from doing it now) and second the truck after putting on new tires and wheels started to pull to the left I had switched the front tires side to side but no change and it got worse as vacation went on especially when applying the brakes I adjusted the rear brakes but it did not help, any ideas?
Thanks and it's good to be back on with you all.

Paul

Glad to hear the trip went well. One question, how did your coolant temp do? On my vacation to Colorado I was able to keep egt's fairly managable, but had to really watch coolant temp. It didn't overheat or anything, but got pretty hot.

Flatlander;

Your problem sounds like a left front caliper that is not fully releasing. When you let off the brake it stays partially applied and pulls the truck to the left. When you apply the brakes you have more pressure on the left side as it is already partially applied, thereby pulling more severely to the left. This is a dangerous situation, especially when towing - get it checked out quick. Good luck #ad

Installing a 4" exhaust system will not effect the exhaust brake at all. The exhaust brake is inside the cast iron elbow at the back of the turbo. The 4" aftermarket exaust system bolts to the end of the elbow, so it begins downstream from the exhaust brake.
I have both the BD exhaust brake on my truck and a 4" seamless mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust system done by Jim Leonard in SoCal. No problems. When you do get the exhaust brake, you'll wonder how you got along without one. With me, it's a habit to always use it when slowing down for a red light, getting off the freeway, etc.

Thanks guy's for the reply's and I will check the front calipers.
danandme, yes I did have too watch the coolant temp. but it seemed to correspond with the egt's. If I watched the egt's the coolant seemed to follow and as you said it would get hot but not overheat and that was only on the really big passes.

I have found that since I installed a 4" Stan's exhaust system turbo back I have lowered my egt to just around 1050*. It never goes above that now. The truck works like a dream.

I just installed a Jardine 4" exhaust and if you've set up your truck with enough fuel the EGT's will still reach 1400 1500 at high rpm seems as though the hx40 housing might be the answer but I don't want the turbo lag down low. So watch the gauge when raceing or extreme pulling and lift the right foot just a little.

If you still have the stock exhaust housing, change to the 16 cm2 and you will cut egt as much as 200 deg. If the cat-con is getting plugged, it can raise egt, and the stock muffler hurts a bt compared to a straight through. However, I noted no improvement in egt from 4" pipe per se with the HX35. The improvement was in folks "misplacing" a plugged cat and "losing" the muffler. If you go up 100 hp more, then 4" begins to help, but the HX40 is what you would really need at that point. BTW the 16 housing will add 20-30 hp as well as cutting max egt under load.

I found the best way to lower EGTs 150-200 is the Psycotty air unit,my puller never gets above 1400 with it. Removing the cat will also help.
