I am thinking about switching to the Toyo 35's that seem so popular around here when my BFG 315's wear out. I have a couple of questions about them.

1) Can I run the Toyo 35's on my stock steel rims and Tuff Country leveling kit without rubbing? Right now my BFG's do not rub at all.

2) If I decide to get new wheels as well, what is the proper dodge back spacing? I have read here 6 and 6. 5.

3) Other than needing fender flares, what is the negatives from running non-stock back spacing? I am most concerned about increased wear and tear on my ball joints etc.

4) Other than the KORE Welds, any wheels that anybody can recommend with the proper back spacing. I won't be adding a KORE suspension so I would like to do it without any more lift that my 2" leveler AND without rubbing.

Thanks in advance.

I'm running Weld Outbacks on my truck. They stick out a bit more than stock, but not by much, maybe 3/4"-1" at most.

I think (haven't tried yet) that if you go with a tire bigger then the BFG AT on a wheel that has 5" or less of back spacing and or 9" wide or wider you will rub the wheel wells when turned. On stock wheels the 35" toyos shouldn't rub but might wear out in the middle prematurely. Forget the MT's they are on major backorder. I checked yesterday at the local tire shop and they said they are back ordered 6 months. :--)

Huskerman,

The Toyo 35" MT is a great tire but a little hard to come by as of now. They are on a national backorder for a least a few more weeks. They will also rub a tiny bit on the control arms with a stock wheel. The offset is 6. 25 inches on a stock wheel. A wheel with less backspacing, say 4. 5 or 5 inches, will clear the control arms but will cause a rub on the trailing edge of the front fender. This is the delema we are given using a incorrect offset. Then the fender/wheel offset will cause the tire to stick out up to 2 inches . That in turn causes rocks, dirt, mud and road gunk to hit the side of your 40k dollar truck. What to do here? Well, that is up to you. There are solutions to our situation but they are the Fender Flares or Fiberglass Replacement Fenders.

Greg,

Is there any combo I can use that won't rub? Right now I have stock steelies w/ 2 inch leveler. I wouldn't mind going with some after-market wheels so that I could put some fender flares on as long as I don't have to lift the truck. It fits in my garage and I want to keep it that way. Thanks.

You can get away with running the Toyo MT's on a stock wheel with a bit of rub on the control arm only. You have enough lift with a 2 inch block to help clear a bigger tire.
