Has anyone installed a back-up detector on their truck? I had a chance to drive a Ford F350 that had this feature installed in the bumper and I worked well. I’ve come too close several times to backing into something. I figure it’s one of those pay-me-now or pay-me-later kind of things. Anyone?

My boss has one in his little Infiniti SUV that he picked up at a clearance sale for about $20. 00. He bought it immediately after almost running over a kid. I was amazed how well it worked (chirps faster the closer you get to something). I went to buy one for my wife (and her Durango) but they had all been sold out. All I know about it is that he says that it was made by the same company that makes "the club". Still looking...

Thanks for the replies. Checked out the link. Now I don't know if that voice would drive me crazy or get one with a display. I wasn’t intending to command the starship Enterprise. Computer…Has anyone actually installed one of these on our trucks or am I going to be the first on the block…

Does anybody know where you can find a backup sensor that has just an audible beeping that gets faster as you near the object?

I don't need one to command the Enterprise :-laf either, just looking for the audible that my friend has on her Expedition. Seems it would be cheaper and just as effective.

It would be nice to have the footage readout like the one on the link, but $140. 00 seems a bit steep. Of course I've already had one boo boo of my own (got a nicer bumper for me as a replacement!) that tattooed the whole side of some woman's Camry when she backed out behind me as I was backing up. Left an imprint of my hitch cover on her car!

dresslered.....

Do you have this system on your truck? If so, please let us know what you think... . quality, reliability, ease of install, etc. I called them and was told the price for our truck application is $144. 00 including shipping.

thanks... .

Thanks for checking that out, 24v-DSL. I went to the web page for a price but got only a ph # and hadn't had a chance to call them yet. We're right back in the same $$ neighborhood.....

David – thanks for finding that! I found several on the net, but that one never turned up. This looks pretty good - both an audible indication and a digital read out. I like that. From the picture, the read-out looks a little hokey - hard to tell from the picture. I called today and after interrogating the guy (his name is CJ), I ordered one. I wanted to get the one for the Bus, because it has brackets to mount the sensors in the bumper, but the control unit isn’t waterproof. So I’ll get the light truck model for now and drill the bumper and figure out something to mount it with – no big deal. It will be a couple of week before I’m in any condition to install it.

RADdodge.....

Thanks for stepping up as the guinea pig for this system. I had a lengthy talk with CJ, also, but I still can't visualize how the sensors are going to look on the bumper/bracket. This does look like a good system.

You've got great pictures of your truck, so I'm looking forward to you posting after your install.

24V-DSL-

I don't have one for my truck (yet) but found the site when I was looking for one for my wife. Still haven't found one so I'll be interested in RADdodge's findings.

As mentioned earlier, I am very impressed with the one my boss bought for $20. 00. It mounts above the license plate and is non-visible (unless you are really looking for it).

I'm now getting very interested, especially for when I've got that big slide-in mounted on my truck.

Funny you should mention the slide in. When I was talking to CJ, he said you could purchase parts too. What I was thinking was getting some sensors to mount in the Lance bumper. Then unplug the truck and plug in the camper. I was also considering mounting the sensors on the tailgate behind that plastic trim at the bottom. Several options to think about.
